Default PSS9s and Stock Swaybars

Searched the archives and nothing right on point.

Anyone have this combo? Is there a need for a larger rear or will the stock US non-m030 bars suffice?

TIA

I currently have this set up. I have driven the car for about 1.5 years this way. It is an improvement over the completely stock set up.

Having said that I recently purchased some used MO30 sways and will be installing them in the next month or so. Nothing wrong with what I have just curious and I had $100 just burning in my pocket (I couldn't choke up the $$$ for the RS adjustables).

For the least expensive solution, you can pick up a set of used M030 bars (22mm front/20mm rear), or better yet, the 21mm rear bar off the turbo. I got the RoW M030 sway bars (used and about $100, to my memory) within the first few months of owning my car as I felt that that much understeer/body roll in any 911 should be declared illegal! Of course, you CAN pop for the RS bars should your re$ources allow it

RS or M030, I certainly wouldn't stick with the stock US bars. You've done so well to put in the PSS9s, to leave the wimpy US bars would really be shortchanging yourself and not taking full advantage of the fine pieces you've installed...IMHO, of course

Brian, I don't have the PSS9 (yet...waiting for Bilstein!!!), but you will definitely feel the marked improvement with "just" the M030 bars. I felt it transformed my car, and that was on 50K-worn OE boingers!

Actually, my car has ROW springs with stock shocks and it feels like the car oversteers. The rear end definitely feels twitchy. When out driving with Nelson on Sunday, I hit a slight rise and the car unloaded resulting in the car feeling like it was wiggling in the rear end.

Hi:

If your shocks have more than 40K miles on them, they are finished,...... These German-made Monroes are not known for long life, much less best handling & control.

Further, your description sounds a LOT like a car that is out of alignment. 993's are quite unstable and twitchy if they are not aligned very precisely.

At the very least, an investment in Bilstein HD shock & struts followed by a good cornerweight and alignment, will really pay big dividends.

Edward,

Good to hear some encouragement. I have had them in my garage for a couple of months and I just can't bring myself to take apart the suspension yet (I have the modified hats to put on the PSS-9's also). You now have me encouraged...hmm maybe this weekend.

Steve, I put new tires on several months ago and did take it down to Custom Alignment for alignment. So if you are saying it sounds out of alignment, I would be real interested in hearing more about how to properly diagnose this. Sounds like my pss9 purchase may be a whole lot sooner

Hey Nelson, are you going to DIY the install?

Hi:

Its almost impossible for an inexperienced person to diagnose and confirm an alignment issue on the 993, there are too many factors at work here,...

Your description sounds a lot like several things:

Static & kinematic toe issues

Cornerweight issues

1 or more bad shocks

My advice is to address the shock problems, and follow up with a proper cornerweight & alignment.

For the record,......993's do not suffer fools in the alignment department,.... These cars are VERY sensitive to both static & kinematic toe settings and if anything is not spot-on, they will not handle well at all.

Many very good people who are well experienced & competant with '94 and older 911's, do not appear to have a handle on the alignment requirements of 993's and later cars, and one must find someone who know these things very thoroughly.

My advice would be to make sure that your alignment folks have the proper equipment and tools that are regularly calibrated, and aligns a LOT of 993 race cars. Very generally speaking, those guys will have the greatest knowledge of the 993 chassis.

Sounds like I need to pay a visit to the car guy.

Any recommendations anyone for a local Bay Area guy?

Default PSS9s and stock sways

I have this setup on my 98 C4S. Seems to work fine, no noise or other problems. My mechanic said the larger would be better but only if I was going to to do more DE or track time.

I have heard only good things about Custom Alignment.

They did a great job on the wheel balancing for me on my 95 993 and I am planning to take my 96TT there for an alignment as well.

I hear they are about the best in the Bay Area.

If others know differently, please tell before I take my car in.

Custom Alignment did my the corner balance, ride height adjustment and alignment during my PSS-9 install. They have one guy who does almost nothing but 993 and other late model Porsche alignments. In the Bay Area, I would only take my car for alignment to Custom Alignment (Peninsula & South Bay) or Roger Kraus (East Bay).

Sounds like I need to bring it back to them to check it out. The only problem is finding the time
