Post aftermarket warranty

I remember reading a post on aftermarket warranties. I did a search and couldn't find the post.
Can someone please post some info on a good company.
Thanks.

GE Assurance..... for engine and transaxle....24 months/24000 miles was about $1400.00 purchased thru a Porsche dealer.... not the seller, just did the underwriting inspection for GE and handled the documents

do you think it's a good idea to buy an aftermarket warranty, or is it a wast of money on a 1997 car with 35000k miles?
Is it just drivetrain, engine, etc.
or does it cover the whole kit and kaboodle?
thanks.

B-Line:

Search the old archives on this one...there have been many discussions on aftermarket warranties. (see Rennlist home page)

Some swear by them and have profited from having coverage. Others--myself included--find that $1600-$2500 is a lot of "insurance" to pre-pay on these cars (with average miles if they pass a PPI and are well-maintained). I think many of the good ones return your $ if you never use the coverage.

If having a warrantee is peace of mind for you then just be sure to get a good one.

Having owned a 97 before for 2 years, I recently purchased a 1998 S and did not feel I needed a warranty.

Good luck. You are getting a lot of car for the $ in this market downtick!

The GE policy only covered the engine and transaxle.... there other levels of coverage that you can purchase but it is very expensive....

If the service history is not available to you or you have other reasons for concern, you can cover your risk and gain some peace of mind.

In my case I sold the Porsche about five months later and it was a very useful selling tool

I also suggest calling your local Porsche dealer and see who they use/sell..if they do a lot of business with one warranty firm, they will have more leverage getting your claims reimbursed...rather than you having to do a ton of negotiation after having your car fixed...
