DEers: sub belt question
I've got standard seats and just mounted a harness bar and belts. How do you all feel about a single sub belt v. dual ??? (keep in mind that my seat is OEM, and thus without a hole for the sub belt).
What I've got now is a single belt wrapped around the front-most edge of the metal "plate" that all the seat motors/cables are mounted on (I wanted to avoid drilling into the floor). Any opinions on how "secure" this mount is?
Regarding dual sub, since the belts splay outward from the camlock toward the seat bolts, does this put pressure, or create any discomfort, to the insides of your thighs?
BTW, I don't do more than a few events a year so a "real" seat is not really the route I'm looking for Thanks in advance, all!

Edward,
I've got a harness install diy on my site. I use the two point sub strap and bolt them to the front seat bolts. Works great and is very easy to remove - you unstrap the straps and leave the brackets in - they hide under the carpet.
I don't think the place you have it currently mounted is good - it might fail if you ever need it and then you are looking at an additional expense to repair the seat mechanism. Also, the sub belt should be very tight and I would imagine you would damage that part of the seat by just snugging up the belts.
Good luck,
E. J.

I agree with E.J. The metal under the seat
will likely not be strong enough to carry
the load of a fully tightened harness, not
to mention the forces of an impact. FYI Speedware Motorsports makes a metal
bar that mounts to the front two bolts and
sits under the stock seat rails. The seats
must be removed to install the bars. I have
this setup. My single mount sub-belt gets
wrapped around the bar for DE, then just
slips right off when not needed. Let
me know if you have any other questions.

In order to avoid surprises, you really
need to check the rule book for the
events you are participating in.
For example, the local PCA region here:
Explictly does not allow attachment
to seat frames.
Requires, where there is no seat hole,
a two strap sub attached to the lap belt
mounts.
Also, if you intend to participate in
various clubs, including different PCA
zones, you need to check each. Zone 7
and Zone 8 have different requirements
for subs and "H" harnesses, for example.
