Post 18" Wheels for 993

Some time back there was a discussion regarding certain 993s not being suitable for 18" wheels - I believe that it could be determined by the VIN but can't find the original discussion.
I'd like to put 18" wheels on my 993 this winter but want to make sure I can - VIN is WPOCA2996SS343412.
Thanks much.

Rick:

My 993's VIN# falls before the 18" wheel/steering rack brace-eligible VIN numbers. I have a good friend who has raced his highly modified 993 with slicks and 18" wheels utilizing the steering rack support strap with no ill effects. I too have installed the rack brace, have 18" wheels and have had a good experience so far. I think you should proceed at your own risk if you choose to do so, but I am betting that it’s fine even for the long run. I have never heard of any kind of steering rack failure or front suspension or bearing problems with any 993s as a result of using 18” wheels. I would think that we would have heard something about that by now if there really were some kind of weakness in that area. You still have to decide on your own, however.
