I have the Porsche child booster seat, including the red leash and clip to disable the airbag. However, when I bought it, I chose not to get the disabler switch fitted to the car.
Does anyone have experience of fitting it themselves, or is it a dealer job?

The install should be straight forward providing the following:
1.) You should find a wire loom pigtail under the passenger seat to hook to the disable buckle wiring to. You may have to remove the seat bolts and tilt the seat back to find it. If you do not find this, I would be suspicious of having an early '96 and possibly no OBDII. My understanding is that all OBDII cars will have this disable wiring. (Anybody knowing more detail, please ad to this thread. I would love to know more myself !)
2.) YOu need a good set of metric allen wrenches to get the seat bolts. I found the ball end useful to get the bolts mostly down. Then used the long end to torque.
As a precaution as to not trip an airbag fault, I might unhook the battery and "drain the system" by turning on the lights and waiting a couple of minutes. Some other folks may know if this is necessary for this simple plug in. I have gotten a little wary as I think I have worn out my favors ar my local dealer for use of the "hammer" in order to reset airbag faults.
In general this is a quick couple of longer bolt sort of install !
Enjoy having your kids and your Porsche at the same time. I sure do !

Take it to the dealer. This is a "warranty" item and they will install it free of charge. I bought my seat from a third party and the dealer still installed it.

Great replies. After reading Jim's reply I wsa thinking I'd do it myself, but then the part about the airbag triggering made me think twice.
I'm surprised this would be covered as a warranty exercise, but hey, if it works....
thanks!

I've bought two of the Porsche baby seats for our cars. The dealership does have their Tech's install time paid for by PAG, that's right. Both of our baby seats were bought from other than the installing dealers too. Try (Greg Arteche @ Sonnen Porsche parts in Marin, CA)
The PAG baby seat workes great on a plane to boot.

Warranty might not be the best choice of words...but Porsche does pay for it. I am sure it is a liability issue. Why risk it?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this, but I thought that this airbag disable switch thing was one of a few differences between a MY96 and a MY97 Carrera... <img src="confused.gif" border="0">
