What's that popping sound... bent tie rod?
I have been hearing a popping sound when making left and right Uturn style turns at slow speeds for the past 7 or 8 months. Couple times I have tried to diagnosis with no luck. My body shop pointed out this bend tie rod on my front passenger side.
Could this be related? You can see how closer it is to the other part in right side then the left.

7-8 months????? Like to know how you did it. I just sold my pair, otherwise I coulda helped ya. You have to have at least a little uneven tire wear from that. Your steering wasn't off center? Like at about 11 o-clock instead of straight up at 12??????

lol... Ya it's been on the list to take care of. Should i replace the inner and outer on both sides or does it matter? Don't want to have to get the car aligned twice.

8 months...holly crap...looks pretty bent to me. On my SUV, I felt a pull from new tire on one side. I can't believe you've been driving 993 like this and didn't have major pull and front tire wear. Hopefully it didn't cause damage to the steering rack.
How did it get bent in first place? I'd replace both inner and outer and check the steering rack.

PO may have set the alignment with tie Rod bent. If the tie Rod is not the issue then whatever bent the tie Rod may have caused other damage. Like steering rack.

...The popping sound could possibly be the CV joints or front wheel bearings. Might want to inspect those as well...
How long have you owned your car?
Any chance this was previous damage that was not identified in a PPI? With the mileage on the car being an unknown, its difficult to determine a "while you're in there", such as suspension, bushings to go along with your new parts, alignment and corner balancing.

Maybe its the angle of the pic, but that looks like a significant bend. Something hit that wheel very hard... Like running into a curb at 10 or 20mph...
That being said: For me it would call into question all of the other pieces of the suspension/steering on that corner. Probably a broken ball joint, but Id want to take it all apart, strip the cosmoline, and take a close look at everything. Dye penetrant testing of the cast aluminum parts may not be out of the question either.
Not an expert here, and I generally take a pessimistic view of things...

The cars been in the family since 2001. I assume I hit a curb or something. Who knows. I had new suspension put in last year and a alignment, and i'd assume they would of said something if they saw it. So it had to have happened after.
The popping sound has been happening for a long time maybe 1.5 years, and i'm pretty sure before I had my new suspension put in. Forgot to mention it to them...
It's not the angle, it's pretty bent. You can see the difference in distance to that other suspension part on the right side of the tie rod. That pretty much is how apart they are from each other.
I did have an accident recently but it's not from it... I wish... lol.
I called a local p-shop and they don't have time to check it until January so i made a appointment until then. He did quote me around 450$ for the replacement of the inner, outer tie rod and alignment for the damaged side.

I am not a auto technician so take my thoughts at your own risk.
Look for a rubbed clean or abrasion contact point on the tie rod end.
I bet the tie rod end nut is coming in contact with the adjacent component in the picture and the pop you hear is it suddenly slipping over the contact point. I would replace the outer rod end and if the inner has no play just keep it. Do this and if the sound goes away you are done. If you feel your alignment is OK beforehand you can measure it across the front and rear edges of the tires and when you replace the tie rod end adjust it accordingly.
