....can't imagine life without keyless entry....yes I do; however, I do not have to press the keyless entry button prior to starting....that would be a royal PITA, I'll take my chances with the neighbours.

If you don't lock the car, or remove the key from the ignition, you can start and stop it all day without pushing the remote. That's one choice, although, not a particularly good choice.

The manual is actually pretty clear on the operation of this button. If the car has been sitting all day with the key out of the ignition, you get in and turn the key to the 1st position...you will see a red "FOB" indicator lit up. You must then press the button and the indicator will turn OFF. You are now ready to crank the car. If you have locked your car, and later return to it...you press the button and the car unlocks. If you DO NOT open the door within (1) minute, the car will re-lock the doors. If you do open the door and get in the car, you simply crank it. I agree it's kind of a pain in the ***, but if you read the manual, it does become a lot more clear.

That's just it, my car does not automatically re-arms itself....could it be related to my radio???? I replaced it with an after market unit, does the alarm look for a signal from the radio like it does for the doors before it re-arms itself (I assume the system will not re-arm itself if the hood, trunk or doors are open)????

When you say it doesn't "re-arm itself", what exactly are you talking about? Are you saying that it does not re-lock the doors when you fail to open a door within (1) minute after pressing the "keyless entry" button?

I would think that if there is some item keeping the alarm from re-activating, you would have an indication of that item. For instance, if you try to activate the alarm with your button, and a door is not closed, a signal will sound. I think you should check your manual to see if your car has this "Automatic re-locking" feature...I put in quotes the term used to refer to this feature in my manual. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Gents, if you read the archives you would see that there are many of us that dont have the crazy pain in the *** drive block, keyless entry sometimes works with a new battery, alarming system. No early build 95s have it and I am glad. My doors unlock when I turn the key and even more impressive, my car starts when I turn the ignition.

Please don't ask me for a cut off serial number of when they started adding this as standard either. If I cant figure out a VIN cut off number for the wiring harness, how can anyone figure out a cut off number for this?

As EJ said, 1995 was a transition MY, so I'm not sure what you have. However, to answer your question, the oem radio IS monitored by the alarm system (as are doors, engine & trunk lids, glovebox, & ignition). I believe only an open door will prevent arming & beep the horn. Other open contacts will allow arming, but with a double flashing LED.

Thanks all for the information -- much clearer now how to handle this PIA key. The more I drive this car the more I like it -- what a rip. Looking forward to participating more on this site. Thanks again.
