Default '72 to '97 to ... 991?

Need help. I traded my lovely 72 for a 993 C2S. Both great cars but I'm having the same problem with my 993 I had with my '72 -- I don't drive it often enough for fear of adding miles and hurting its value. I really just want to drive...

I have an opportunity to trade my 993 for a 3,000 mile 2012 C2S. Thoughts?? Cross-posting in 991 forum for feedback. Thank you!

Sounds like you need two 911s, a garage queen and a driver.

I would say just drive and enjoy. Don't worry about value. If you must have a 991 at least try to move the 993 on rennlist so an enthusiast has a shot at it before being subject to massive dealer mark up. Good luck.

lots of threads on comparing the 993's to younger cars, the 997's, 991's, GT3's, and on and on. You might want to search a bit and read some of those, you will get responses here but its only one thread ...

You will also get biased opinions on each forum because that forum is focused on a particular model.

You also need to provide more info - do you value wrenching yourself, or you prefer to keep your fingernail clean? Track or street? Commute or spirited weekend driving? How big are you? Do you love technology?

You will get a million opinions but which car fulfills your needs AND pulls at you? You already know the answer, you are just asking the question for the justification.

Cheers,

Mike

If you're that mindful about values, I don't understand the logic of trading an appreciating asset (993 C2S) for a depreciating one (991). The 991 is on the top of the depreciation slope while your 993 is on its way back up.

Unless your 993 is a sub-20,000 or 30,000 miles museum specimen, you're never going to win any low mileage contests so you might as well use the car.

Life is too short to obsess over the values so I would pick the one which you're the most passionate about and then drive it!

get a 996T. inexpensive, fun to drive, and worry free to operate.

How many PMs have you received already to purchase your wide body 993. This might be the newest tactic.

A- Sell it or trade it. You don't deserve it.

B- Buy a membership since you'll probably sell from this post. You need to be a member to sell, and you must list a price.

Don't just drop in here as a brand new enrollee and post a car for sale-that's what the rules were designed to squash.

so far, the responses i've received have been helpful. thank you to all.

ed, cmon now, that was pretty darn mean and uninformed. grow up. eez...

iv'e posted many times on Pelican and 911Registry, just not here. i am not looking to sell my car. my plan, (IF i move up to a 991) is to trade with a private seller or dealer... not that it's your business what i do.

i'm just looking for opinions from a forum i respect.

I stand by my words. You're working the system.

OP, your math is all wrong. You're going to take a much bigger depreciation hit driving a new 991 than a 993 S. The 993 will hold its value even if you put some miles on it. The 991 is losing value fast no matter what you do. Or did you think exotic cars appreciate when you drive them off the lot?

And unless you're close to broke, who cares? Let's say you drive the hell out of the S and now it's worth $10K less than before. If that $10K in depreciation is going to affect how you live your life, these might not be the cars for you in the first place.

Yes, I find these threads ludicrous.

Uh, sure. Go ahead and trade it if that's what you want to go. Life goes by fast. If you'd not feeling the 993 anymore and you want a 991 - then just do it! I can't understand your logic at all in this regard but if that's what you want to do, so be it.
