I just bought an engine for a track car from a wrecked '95 993 car, vin #WP0AA2999SS320732. Im trying to figure out if the harness recall has been done. The dealer says no open recalls, but cant tell me if it has ever been done. (the harness is damaged, and i have a replacement harness that hasnt been done. So I need to know if I should repair the damaged one, or replace it. If it has been replaced with the updated one, then i will fix that one.) Of course the numbers are missing. Im trying to decode the vin to see if its a US or CDN car. If its a US car the second paragraph down shows it to be out of range for the recall, if its a CDN car, then it shows to be in range ---assuming that 0 comes after 9, as in 10---, because the first paragraph, second line shows that vins between those are CDN. If 0 comes before 9 then I think im ok. Im basing this because the first vin is 2993 the second is 2990, so Im assuming the 0 is after the 3.
Help, I just confused myself even more!! Am I even looking at the right place??
Vin ranges from P-car.com:
911 CARRERA COUPE 95 S 99SS3 10061>19000
911 CARRERA COUPE (USA) (CDN) 95 S 99SS3 20061>29000
Recall Vins:
WPOAA299XSS320061 to WPOAA2998SS324139 U.S. Coupe
WPOAA2993SS320158 to WPOAA2990SS324104 Canada Coupe
As I recall, if your car was in the S/N range then it "could have" a bad wiring harness. The only way to tell was to look at the wiring harness part number, and maybe also the mfg date of the harness. Without the part number I think it would be best to just replace it, especially since you already have the replacement available. Good luck.
