Help - Headlight specs US vs. EU
Hi,
I need help to know the differences between the 993 headlight Euro specs and the US specs. Can I install a headlight US spec on a European car?
Anybody know the differences?
If I'm not wrong, the part number are:
Euro: 993.631.031(2).00
US: 993.631.051(2).00
Thx

As far as I know are the US headlights equipped with a levelling stud protruding to the reflector area. I guess this is due to US law. Euro cars do not have these. The light housing, levelling mechanism and reflectors/lens are, as far as I know, the same. RHD cars may have different reflectors and lens alignment.

The light pattern is very different in the US vs ROW headlights. US DOT headlights by design allow lightscattering over the cut off in order to illuminate street signs. ROW lights do not have that feature.
I have run ROW (Euro) HID headlights on a few VWs and Audis I've owned in the past and honestly I prefer them because the beam is concentrated on the road and the fact that there is no light scattering above the cut off greatly reduces glare.

When i did my HID conversion on my Carrera I looked up the DOT headlight aiming procedure and used it. I found cars in opposing traffic flashing me so I aimed them a little lower. I seem to recall the Euro headlight specification, unlike the US DOT, weights the projection height to one side. I noticed that my USA car's headlights do this. For this reason I believe the headlights can be set where they meet both Euro and USA specifications.
