Default Problem replacing boots & re-greasing axels

After removing the axel on my 95 c2 for re-grease, I am able to remove the inner (transmission side) cv covers front and back then remove assembly, clean and re-grease. I know the outer (wheel side) the cv is pressed on, I tried to remove the inner side cover so I can clean cv as best I can without disassembly. But I cannot get the cover to slide off as the trans side of the cv covers came off. Any tricks to getting it off???

If I'm following you correctly, I don't think that one comes off. Well, I think it CAN come off, but it might be a pita. But with it on you can still get quite a bit of old grease out with patience and then regrease. That's what I did with mine, but I was lucky in that I had an inner boot was torn not outer so I was not to worried to inspect the outer joints as closely. The inners I disassembled, cleaned and inspected. If my outer boot had torn, I probably would have perservered a little more to get it open. With the half shafts at $500+ these boots should be inspected with every oil change and any other time you have the car up too, imo. This diy talks about the cover and also flushing the outer but you will need a parts cleaner and some patience.
