It's very simple. Just pull the unit out, disconnect the wiring, and remove
the three small screws to get access to the small bulb.
I've done it a number of times for my customers (dealers and
independent shops).

I believe you have to remove the steering wheel to get the rev counter out. That's what the OPC did to replace my bulb. This requires you to disconnect the battery for 30 mins before removing the wheel to disable the airbag.
I saw several posts on this list that said it's not possible to remove the rev counter without first removing the steering wheel.

Yes, you must remove the steering wheel in order to have clearance to remove the tachometer. This requires removal of the air bag. If you do not disconnect the battery before air bag removal you will get a warning light which only the dealer can cancel.

The air bag light can be cancelled by anyone, i.e. with access to
the Porsche tester. Many have this tester, not only the dealers.
The air bag is also simple to remove for you DIY guys.
