What is this warning light?
Hello there I am coming back to the forum, after a long period of absence. Ten years ago this forum looked very different, I received incredible help when I was rebuilding my '78 930. I am back because I am a proud owner of another dream car a '96 993 C4S. I am trying to get myself familiarized with the 993 and notice that in one of the dials there is a warning light that does not appear anywhere in the manual, it has not come on, but I am really curious of what is it and why I have it. I borrowed the attached picture to show the light that I am referring to, is in the upper right side, next to the check engine light. Thanks for the help.! I am trying to attach a picture, but not sure it is going through.

Porsche used the same part that was designed for the 94 928 GTS. Though the layout is different. My guess is it saved a production step for more time at Oktoberfest.
.... Or it's a warning light that your alignment shop didn't use the proper kinematic tool.

I tried finding your answer, but came up empty. Does it come on and go back out like the other lights? If it does not come on at all, the 928 suggestion might be right. That is wild.

I think they referred to the Weissach axle as providing "passive" four wheel steering. So, no, it didn't have four wheel steering in the way that most of us think about it.
The mystery of the light remains.

Thank you for the follow up to all. @Bonster, the light does not come up when the ignition is on as the other warning lights do and then turn off. I can see the little window on the dial. So I have been searching for pictures to try to see the picture as on mine is difficult to make what the picture is, so I found the original picture on the internet.
So I get from the various post that nobody else has the same blank warning light window on their 993s, which make me think if my car has been tampered with.
Thanks for the support once again.

I made an extensive hunt for the symbol and could not find it. My bet is originally the 993 was going to include the 4 wheel steering feature. It was one of the purposes of the design of the sub-frame rear suspension. When Porsche asked for a quote from Bosch for a hydraulic system the cost was too high so the 993 didn't receive the upgrade. This doesn't mean that Porsche did not have it in their design concept when they developed the gauges for the 993. Most all dash symbols are standardized. From looking at other's car make's symbols this does not seem to be the case for four wheel steering. So the symbol may be both unique and an orphan.

My first thought was that it has something to do with ABD. It's activation emulates 4-wheel steering in a very small way due to the multi-link rear suspension. But ABD has it's own activation light so I'm just as puzzled.

Maybe the previous owner had a cracked gauge and this was a cheaper replacement option? I think the only way to know for sure would be to remove the gauge and look up its part number.
