I did the aluminum bar yesterday. Bought a 48x1" from the big box store for about $10. Approximated some bends and marked hole location. Drilled pairs of holes and made them slits with a Dremel. Installed with speed nuts as pictured above.

Only problem/delay was that I tried to use the plastic nuts first. One popped of into the nether regions. Ended up having to take the blower assy out to retrieve it. I want to tweak it some more, and maybe paint it an then ill post a pic.

PEGDRAG: When researching 3M products I found the most heat tolerable and NON-FLAMMABLE glue did not come in a $10 spray can (which I would prefer as it go get to the hard to reach glue-failing areas)..from what I saw, you typically have to buy in bulk. My insulation also appears a bit brittle so I think the proper fix is the aluminum bar as fitted by quite a few of the, should I say "brighter" people here. Most likely I will go the speed nut or similar route and save the plastic screws for an engine out down the road when I can replace the foam from the factory to be as original as possible (also will be costly I assume, so no rush).

Like you stated, my falling foam was a little brittle. I figured if I sandwiched it like I had, it would not start to flake off and create pockets of crap down in the abyss. Personally, I'd take it out and will do so if/when the engine is ever dropped. I love the sounds the car makes and don't need the isolation many feel is needed in these cars. More sounds for me to try and figure out "what's making that noise"?

I went looking for these buggers at several stores (Home Depot, O'rielley's, McDaniel's Hardware, and Ace Hardware) to no avail, where did you guys find these speed-nuts?
Maybe I'll try NAPA on Monday but I'm not too enthusiastic.

My stuff is 3M 90. It's really not a big deal as to what is used, as long as the product has some temp resistance. Many, many miles and runs at higher end engine temps. As to flammable, I'd think most epoxies or adhesives are, in pre-use state. It's no worse than the lines of gasoline in the engine compt.

They'll have them at HD, Lowes or any decent hardware. They'll probably be zinc or just steel nuts.

ED...Good point, I guess everything on the road that has gas could be a risk.....glad that is not happening or every time you step out the door, we would be seeing a Stallone/Schwartzenegar movie!

I've always seen those referred to as speed nuts.

Not sure what threads they will cut?

Potato, potahto.

I'd call you second one a self- retaining nut.

Maybe we call these thread cutting speed nuts?

I spent a good part of the day on Saturday looking for these suckers while asking for speed nuts and all they had were these
so after visiting 4 or 5 stores got pissed and frustrated at the waste of time and lack of correct terminology,
so today I checked online for these cross contaminated fasteners when I came across the fleebay listings.

I agree with you let's call them thread cutting speed nuts
