Default Alternator shim photos...

So I switch out my supercups and now hear a slight whistle coming form the alternator. I want to get rid of it,it's annoying.....

Any more pics about - I have more shims than what's shown...

edit: every car is different, and number of shims vary..smh...great... and I guess the pix below is of the updated pulley...

Yes that's the updated pulley. If this is your existing setup that has worked, I wouldn't change the number of shims unless the belts appear way to tight or loose. I've been doing that for a while...if it ain't broke, don' t fix it. YMMV of course.

You might replace those 3 bolts on the right with better/harder M8 bolts so you can't strip the Allen heads, especially if they are already buggered up. Also, some light anti-seize will help the next dis-assembly.

im having the same issue, i changed my hub out to an rs hub... and supercups.

im gonna look into it but it might be that my rs hub bolts are not tight enough or the belt is not tight enough.

Why do you have the AC compressor bolts removed if you're working on the fan pulley?

to get the belts off the assembly the easiest way to get all the belts, especially the ac compressor belt on is to remove the assembly as a whole. and to remove the alternator for a RS hub.

That's another listers setup.... I had changed them to hardened bolts when I replace the alternator x years ago. I was running supercups so didn't really hear much..lol..Now with quieter mufflers, the slight whistle is annoying. I replace them with new porsche hardware last night, since someone mentioned that it maybe the culprit - no difference. About an hour ago I removed a couple shims and it sounds a lil quieter..

The shims aren't for sound effects. They're how you set the tension on the v-belt.

THEY ARE!?! All this time I thought they were sound effect shims

I think he knows that... To tight on the belt may produce whine (not wine)...I think he was trying to reduce the whine he is hearing

Remove shims = tighten belt. You might have the belt too loose and it was slipping.

Looks like he was actually too loose and making whine. Too bad 993s make whine, not wine...

Buy a Clewett serpentine conversion kit and be done with the shims and V belts of yesteryear.

Genuinely hope you don't cook the bearings in your alternator with a too-tight v-belt.
