Is my dream slipping away from me because of the increasing prices of 993s?

Sounds like you are ready to go all in and move aggressively, even if you're overextending yourself. Economize elsewhere? Set aside even $1500/mo., and reassess in a year? (If the market goes that nuts, leaving you further behind, oh well.)
Ultimately, the financially conscious side of me thinks guys are nuts for buying a 20 year old car that will tap into anything more than spare change you find in your sofa cushions. But I was an 18 year old who once spent every dollar I had on a 911............
Finally, if you're cross-shopping a 993 against what is arguably the worst 911 ever produced, AND is nearly 40 years old, I suggest you need to spend time driving both. And that's figuring you can even find a non-butchered example of a '76.

Reset your expectations or continue to dream. You can find a nice C2 for low 40s. Your dream is within reach...if you can let go of the notion of having a widebody. The narrow body C2s are wonderful cars. Good luck.
You guys are probably right about the S model. But this is what keeps me dreaming. I stole these images on the internet many years ago, each time I see them, I fall in love again. Just beautiful, no other sports car in the world looks as great to me as this. Something about these lines. I believe it was a britisch designer that worked on the shape. Drool..
Anyway, I do want a drivers car and a non S is definetly more in my price range. I will keep looking and keep reading everyones post. Love this type of community.. Always great to see others with the same passion.

+1 on the NB.. I had my heart set on a WB, but there was a 10K premium and i wanted $ left over to update the car (standard recipe - PSS10, SSK+Golden Rod, Fister Stage 3 & new rubber (must for any used car, especially old)) I don't regret for a minute! the NB 993 has beautiful curves and the wifes favorite angle of the car is the rear end.. even if it is a bit slimmer.

RG- in this market you need to be patient and act quickly. Have your finances ready to go. Gone are the days, "Oh here's my deposit. Let me go get financing or ask the wife"! Yes it's possible to find a WB in high 30s or low 40s. But I'm certain you need to drop a few Gs to sort it out. Good luck hunting.

Better to buy an already nice WB for $50K-ish, or, as others have said, buy a nice narrow-body for $40K-ish.
Good luck

Three Wheelin'
I originally thought that I wanted an S model with 18" wheels or nothing. But after seeing my C2 I fell in love with it... buy on condition as so many people have said.
Mine, with no regrets!

well, the OP did state he wanted a WB 993. Having said that, if he considers a NB 993, then cab's, and Targa's come into the mix. There are about three pretty nicely priced cabs right here on rl now, isn't there?
A 100K mile NB coupe should easily be had for high 30's, or the above mentioned cabs for low 30's.
As others have said, get the money ready. Search multiple times a day, on all forum's, ebay, Autitrader, cars.com, etc.
Glad I'm not in your shoes now I can tell you that. Best of luck

Funny, I didn't even consider S models when I was looking, other than being aware of the ones for sale. As many have said, a nice C2 does just fine.
Also as previously noted, a '76 is one of the 2 or 3 worst years of 911's ever built. If you want old and <40k, stick with 78-89. But, that market is just as looney, if not more so, than 993's.

[QUOTE=Quadcammer;11411710]just get a narrowbody.
basically the same experience. I wouldn't let 1.5 inches separate me from a dream.
Totally agree, WB are sexy but the NB is beautiful and just as much fun. I too was about to give up and get a 928 or 968. But I'm glad I held out. I found a well maintained 95 with high miles and never looked back. Good luck.
