Cool The beginning of an Aventura Adventure ..continued

Hi all,

(Ok, you probably know it as Aventurine but here in Europe I believe it was Aventura!)

The dream started almost 20 years ago at the London Earls Court Motor Show; the Porsche marketing team could see an excited youngster was truly fixated with their 'all new 911' and so let me in through the barrier to see this amazing machine. They soon set me on my way, handing me a hardback copy of the 911 Carrera sales brochure...

To this day, that parting gift remained carefully placed in my study & work space to serve as a constant reminder, keeping the dream alive.

Fast forward 14 or so aspirational years, last month marked the realisation of that dream - I managed to finally secure a 993! With the market moving the way it currently is, it was seemingly now or never.

The car is a late 1995 Carrera 4, Aventura exterior and Black interior. It currently sits on ~75k miles having covered ~10k miles since 2008. There are a few nice touches including a recent retrim of all seats/gear ****/gaitor/steering wheel/door cards, 17" Cup II wheels, working AC, PA1000 alarm and Becker Grand Prix. Cosmetically the exterior does show several stone chips, a perishing rubber seal here and there, and potential signs of a door check strap on it's way out, though I couldn't expect concours standard. Mechanically, the PPI flagged a few items too but advised nothing should deter me away...

Here are two images for your viewing:

Whilst they advise to never meet your heroes, I'm really, really glad I've done just that .

It's great when a plan comes together and you finally achieve the 993 dream, I had great fear that ownership wouldn't match the large expectation, but in fact they have been far far exceeded.

I have always loved the colour

Lovely car ... and quaint bricks comprising the road surface!

What are the two little objects right below the switches in the center console?

I'm really not one for too many modifications, (as you'll see from my previous car), and I think I'll be focusing on getting common issues addressed first, i.e. 'must haves', before I look to the 'nice to haves'. Regarding the latter, I will be installing Tore B's T-Lights over the coming weeks, a bulb blowing the other day presenting the perfect opportunity (and must admit the prospect of new suspension, new exhaust tips and the exhaust bypass mod do appeal ).

As for the interior - thank you - the car was taken back to Germany for the interior retrim, the results were pleasing:

Stance? It's on factory ride height! I see most of the 993 suspension setups here on Rennlist and am tempted to lower the chassis as a result, however our roads here in the UK aren't the best (potholes, speed bumps, you name it..).

I somehow gathered it isn't one of the more popular colours amongst 993 owners (?) but I really am very fond of it. It has so much character depending on the lighting condition... sometimes blue, sometimes green, sometimes grey:

They are both LED blink lights. One is the for the GPS tracker the car had fitted during it's early yearsand another is the alarm system. Coupled with the blinking LEDs in the doors (when alarmed) and Becker head unit, it makes for quite a light show in the dark .

Fantastic car.

To clarify on stance, 993's came to the US with extra height. Many of us lower our cars to the RoW (rest of the world). So your ride height is "lowered" by US standards.

Color is perfect. I like the black with the Aventura.

Wonderful story, thanks for sharing.
That is a really nice example you have. Agreed, the retrim really looks fantastic.
As for mods, if you lower the car I think you will find it will still be fine on UK roads. They can't be any worse than where I am, in Ontario, Canada. You can see my ride height in my avatar and it poses absolutely no problems. I went the PSS-9 route and couldn't be happier.

Enjoy your fantastic machine. You have some great B-roads that are begging to be enjoyed.
