i cannot find the resource after all of 2 minutes of looking.. but from previously reading on this i came away thinking there were only in the neighborhood of 290 1998 C4S cars made - and they were finished in 1997.. 290 .. that's a pretty small number. so while there were more total 4S cars made .. if you find a 1998 you have a pretty rare car. The 1998 C4S and 1998 Turbo are really the last of the last.... which is why i took extra time to find one and couldnt be happier!

if you arent in love with the wider back end on the C4S .. get the 2S .. for me .. love the wide look .. dont need the turbo .. dont care about the weight ..etc.. its how it looks that mattered for me. and i love the thrill of the chase.

no worries dave. i've made plenty of mistakes and have learned a lot here on rennlist.
op, enjoy the hunt. the guys are right to say that it's one of the most fun things i've done in a long time. drive different cars, and enjoy the possibility of owning one. each is a little different in mods, condition, and options. when you pull the trigger, you are married to the car so to speak and will need to spend a lot of time and money getting it the way you want it. remember to save a good bit of money to bring the car back to top mechanical condition BEFORE the mods.

If they are really both 1998, the C4S is far rarer that year-only 300 or so in the U.S./Canada. Not sure that's a good reason to pick one or the other but just sayin'.

I am talking total production. There were slightly less than 1700 C2 s's imported, total. There were in excess of 2600 C4 S's imported. In addiation, I beleive all the C2's have 1997 production dates. The special interior belt leather trim on the C2 2S's along with their std. split grills make them somwhat unique. I had qualified my post by saying that the C 2 S was a better choice for the long term, but who knows, just my opinion.

Thanks Soundbehindyou, I was looking for that last night. It is also intresting to note, there were less C2 S's than TT imported as well.

Thanks Soundbehindyou ! Ok.. who has the 1 1997 C4 Coupe! i guess you cant get much more exclusive than that.

You guys in bigger markets are pretty lucky that you get to see these cars more and have dealers near by etc. i had never actually seen a C4S in person when i bought one. There is not a Porsche dealer within 2 hours of my city in any direction..etc. i guess that shows the kind of pull these cars put on you once they hook you.

They are pretty much the same looking car from the front so you can't really go wrong with either :-) Good luck!
I have the best of both worlds: A 4S with a split grille added..

The '98 production saw the ABD option, a 4ch based ABS, as a No Cost option. The 993 2wd N/A vehicles typically came through with a simpler 3ch Bosch ABS arrangement.

OP .... I'd encourage you to drive these MY98 2wd vs 4wd coupes to get a feel. Both great 911s ...
Someone posted "if you like the 4wd spirit, why not a TT" .... Knowing the two models as I do ... I get it.
Haven't driven a 2wd with the aftermarket TPC induction kit.. Nice torque increase....

Having made the 2wd choice when ordering waaay back in May of '97 .... I passed on the C4S w Big Reds in favor of similar funds $ spent on Full leather, HiFi, CD + changer, Litronics, LSD, HB heated seats, Computer, sunroof, Interior lighting w/sunvisor, Big ovals, R. wiper, etc, etc... (Basically the TTs interior spec. details.) Having gone the high option lower weight C2S route budget was available for a RoW G50/21 gearbox swap, RoW bumpers, M033, etc. The result is a not so heavy yet spirited 993 with a gorgeous interior ...

PS. IIRC the C4S/TT Big Reds were a $1,200 option on the 2wd chassis 993, which provides ABD 4ch ABS. Track car, DE use..Oh yeah. Street use? Why? My .2 cents.

However, it looks like every C2S made has come out of the closet lately for sale (OK a bit strong of a statement) but seems like more 2S's recently offered.....and to DavePorsche - sorry not too many "brothers" near by, but come to Scottsdale and you can ride in my 4S....in the mean time HAVE MUCH CORN!

There seems to be a higher than normal concentration of WB cars in the Pacific Northwest, TTs, 2 and 4Ss!!
