Default 1998 C2s vs 1998 C4s

Seems like the market on the C2s and C4s are nearly identical. Which is a better buy? Why? I am aware of the production number on the C4s are almost double.

The better buy is the one with the better documented service history and in better condition.

Assuming both in excellent condition..no paint work, no accident, service record...

Nowadays, buy which ever becomes available. They are slim-pickin'. Most are sold within a few hours.

The point is, neither is "better". That's why you say the market is identical.

If you live in a place with, say, lots of weather and rain, a C4S might be a better call for you.

If you prefer the classic RWD set-up, then the C2S might be the call.

These cars are coming up on 20 years old, which is why service history and condition matter more than what's on the badge or even mileage, especially if you are buying the car to drive.

Both are fantastic models. You cannot go wrong with either. But I would suggest you look for the best car for YOUR needs, and focus on condition and service history above all.

Good luck

imho, c2s hands down. you can always add big reds. AWD adds weight and complexity. will you drive your 20 year old porsche in the snow? will you take it out when it's raining? i would not. many owners store their cars in the winter.

i asked my mechanic this question today and he said, "if i'm considering a c4s why not get the turbo?"

in the end, get whatever you want, whatever makes you happy. don't look at the price first before the car. the price is very important, but it makes no sense to pay for a c4s if you really want a c2s or vice versa. drive a lot of different cars to help you narrow down the specific model and options.

As I do not take my C4S to the track (OK, so I could be a bit wimpy) I like the big reds and maybe the ability to pull out of a slippery situation. Value-wise? The cars being sold back to Germany I reason would be typically 4S because of weather. Here in US, if you are fair weather driver, go for the best condition as mentioned. (https://rennlist.com/forums/images/s...iggrin.gifWhen searching for value and condition of the "broad-beamed S's, I jumped on the best car at the best value available.)

It adds about 100 pounds of mostly 95% rear-drive bias, which, if you're Michael Schumacher and need every last tenth of a second at the track, can be removed and put back quite easily. Also, after nearly 20 years on the road the AWD system in the 993 has proven itself many times over to be one of the most bullet-proof, reliable and trouble free systems on the car.

And yes, as my daily driver, I drive my C4S when it rains, which, is not often here in SoCal

Either or both, you can't go wrong from an investment standpoint. Drive them both then decide.

just step up to the TT! IMO the C2S is better. If my car is going to have all the turbo equipment and suspension- I want the extra power

Honestly, I wouldn't even consider a TT. It's not the power that matters to me. And I don't think TT is a step up.
