C2S if it is the Vesuvius package... Otherwise, it comes down to finding the one that speaks to your emotions and has documention.

As far as driving in rain/snow, with the right tire set-up, neither is a problem if you are smart about it (in full disclosure, I have not driven my car when there has been more than 2-3" of snow on the freeways).

It depends on what you value more....the Big Reds with AWD or Split Grill and RWD. I had the same dilemma when I was searching for mine. I considered both but the more I looked at it, I chose aesthetics of the 2S with split grill over all others. In the end, it's whatever floats your boat and what you intend to have the car for. They are pretty much the same looking car from the front so you can't really go wrong with either :-) Good luck!

correct me if I am wrong. why buying 993 2S/4S? instead you can buy a 997TT at nearly same price and 30-40% faster. Isn't it the classic look and the WIDE body that's makes this car worth more and make it special? To me 2WD/4WD turbo or not is irrelevant.
I seriously doubt that owners are driving the 993s in the snow often, unless its a photo-shoot or a important car meet.

You can add split grill and remove AWD on C4S for couple hundred bucks.

You can add big reds on C2S for 1k??? not sure how easy to find, you can't add AWD.

Does C2S come with ABD, upgraded ABS and LSD stanadard? Not sure, but from what I read those are great additions to have.

Does it really matter? Not really, both are great cars. I'd go after one in better condition with more upgrades.

+1 on the turbo instead of c4s. Driving a c2s is a completely different thing. Nice to have the raw feeling of RWD and NA engine in the c2s. I choose the turbo mainly because I love the look of it. Yes, it's powerful and fun to drive but not compared to RWD and NA. But those wide hips and that wing on the turbo. My god:thumb up:

So basically you can't go wrong with a 993!

NYC993- not sure where you are getting your pricing info- all of those were way low. Nonetheless, I agree with your statement. I debated c4s vs TT and in the end selected the C4S because I wanted the option to drive the car they all seasons and awd was important here in Minneapolis. I am also a bit concerned about the extra expense of maintaining a TT and keeping my foot out of it! Someone commented on the 997- not the same car. Better? That's a personal preference. I prefer the 993 look.

Perhaps prices are low to do it properly, not sure. My point was that you can make C4S into C2S (to get that "raw" feeling of RWD that people refer to) but not vice versa. Also people seemed to be so attached to the grill, overlooking the fact that C4S has big reds, ABD and LSD standard and you can never add AWD to C2S (well maybe you could for the price another 993). Putting new grill is easy other things are not so much.

yeah the grill wasn't even a consideration for me- I wanted all the other features you mentioned. I'd like to do the grill, but I haven't been able to fine one for under a grand- that's too much for a little bling in my book. Rather put that into the "futures" account for the clutch replacement i'll probably need in the next couple of years.

All things being equal, I think the C2 S is a better long term choice. Only two production years, rather than three, and there were about 25% fewer made than the C4 S.

By that logic NB C4 is the way to go esp C4 cab or 97 C4 coupe (only 1).

EDIT: im just playing devils advocate, although i do have C4S. This discussion is very theoretical, since finding two cars in the same condition owned by the same owner is slim to none. I would have taken 2S if the right deal presented itself. If one drives in snow, 2S with winter tires will give you most of the performance of 4S, except for acceleration.

c4s is a wonderful car. no question about that. right now turbos are red hot, so for the money, the turbo sounds like a good bet. personally, i don't like the whale tail. aero and hardbacks are a must for me. so i found and bought the car that had exactly what i wanted.

anyway, there's no wrong choice here. we're all very fortunate to have one or are in the market for one of the most beautiful cars ever built.

Thinking it's $400-500 for the split grill and related bits at Sunset Porsche.

Who cares? 4S or 2S...all the same. We're having a technical argument here and from how I read the OP's question, that may not be his original intention? In the end each has their pros and cons, that the other one doesn't. We could always change up a car by adding different things onto it but we can do that to a NB as well.

My assumption of the OP is that given both cars is completely stock and that he's a purist and the question is not related to its performance or aesthetics, the remaining item can only be whats a better 'investment'. In that case, that's all based on majority of supply and demand. If the market calls for 2S being more rare and desirable, then what one's opinion doesn't matter. Currently, it does seem 4S and 2S are pretty much equal with the 2S w/ split grill a little bit more desirable to the general public. It could be that they made fewer over the span of 2 years or it could simply be the split grill's appeal....explains why you see so many 4S owners adding the split grill onto theirs right? ;-) Just my thoughts. Great discussions though and hearing what thoughts are from current 993 owners.
