Not quite, Macan Turbo starts around $ 70K and SQ5 (Prestige) is about $60K..
OK, maybe it's a bit of a stretch, but...
I know of a few SQ5s that are for sale at around $55K.
Yes, the Macan Turbo starts at around $70K. Add in a few of Porsche's famously expensive options to their almost equally famous lack of options on their base cars and you will be hard pressed to get one for under $85K and easily can spec one to close to $100K or more.
So, yes, not exactly half the price, but I'd still take a $55K SQ5 over an $85K Macan Turbo.
You're not getting $30K more car with the Macan, that's for sure
But the latest generation Cayenne has proved to be lighter weight vehicle compared to it's competition and the performance/quailty is actually really good for that segment. I cant argue with that.
I never thought i would be in the market for a porshe SUV, especially at the price point of the Cayenne, but alas, here I am now with a newborn baby and living in a snowbelt area that favors 4 wheel drive vehicles..
I only require something small like that of the VW tiguan. Afterall, it is mainly a beater for the wifey. But i find that all these mini-utes are just so lame. They have no real performance or character.
I figured I just aswell stay in the Porsche club and try the Macan.
The Macan is a lot more money then what used to be the nicest of mini-utes (the Audi), but then again it will blow the doors off the Audi which kinda cool for when i have to take the keys

FWIW .5 sec 0-60 difference is a lot. But only if you drive flat out
The Macan is a very good looking SUV for sure. And so is the current generation Cayenne. Pretty much the best looking SUVs out there, followed by the Audi Q5 and Q7.
I almost bought a (first gen) Cayenne over the winter but at the end the ride height and interior (not so much the exterior) killed it for me. I ended up with yet another wagon. Couldn't be happier. A Macan would've been way too small as a family car.
According to Car & Driver, the Macan Turbo 0-60 is 4.6 sec.
According to Road & Track, the SQ5 0-60 is 5.1 sec.
The Macan is slightly faster. Is it worth $30K faster for .5 sec to 60 mph?
The $30K difference is Porsche profit, not a $30K better car, IMHO
I gave up on publicated 0-60 times back in high school.
Trust me, the PDK 340hp S will make the SQ5 feel like a tiguan.
Combination of transmission, engine and suspension. It is a hot rod SQ5.
Mind you it is still a wifey car. But i think i might find some fun factor with it.
The macan is damn expensive for what it is however... It is sort of a platform share vehicle with Audi which should make it more affordable if anything... But alas, porsche charges your first born for options thart should be standard equipment...
My friend is getting his any day now (tracking shows it coming up from the Panama Canal). Pretty cool the way Porsche sends out a tracking link to see where it is in transit.

Yes, the however. Spoke at length with Daniel, the marketing head who came over for the LA show debut. (He spoke at the Tech Tactics in Ontario the next day.) Basically, it would have been cheaper to clean-sheet this project (~800M Euros), than base it off the Q5 (~1.1M Euros). But they were too far in, so we've got what we've got.
He was obviously enthusiastic about the product; but what really told me that most wouldn't be able to exploit what this chassis offers, even on track, was word from the guys who work in Ontario training the Porsche techs. Very, very positive compliments on what they were able to do with pre-production vehicles.
