So, what have I got here?

You are way to low, it looks lower then RS height. If you want to keep it that low and remove bump steer you will need to get the RS front spindles and all the other goodies, about $2800 plus install. The car will handle far better after.

Thanks everyone. I have no intention of keeping the car this low. I am thinking about RS +10 should be a good balance. It's been this height since I bought it and it's been a long winter here in Denver. I'm going to take it in and have it adjusted. Looks like the threads are in good condition and should be able to be adjusted fairly easily. Thanks again, and I completely agree that it's way too low.

Beautiful car! I own a 97 Arena Red also - may I ask and I know it is not pertinent to the thread - Is your spoiler factory or aftermarket? I have heard not so good things about the aftermarket bolt-ons! I am in the process of modding my car also - and want as much info as possible thank you !

If you look at how much dead space you have when the shock is extended, I'd say someone whacked off a bunch of your spring length. My ROW springs have a gap when I lift the car, but not that much.
Your shocks should be fine, but I'd look at starting over with a MO30 or MO33 ROW spring.

That's how it looks to me. I can't take a pic until next week, perhaps- traveling this week and lots on tap this weekend.

Thanks for the help Ed. Do you happen to know the part number for the proper springs for these bilsteins in case I need to replace them? The rear doesn't show the kind of dead space that the front does. If they were cut and the progressive portion removed, that would explain why it rides so horribly. If they're cut, I'm going to end up replacing all 4 since I'm sure they messed with those too. Ugh.

Hi - 71-3.0-911,
I'm not the guru many on rennlist are, but I took some pictures of my own car that I acquired 9 months ago ---- please don't compare the dirty underside of my car with the others!
When I bought my car, the previous owner indicated to me that he had put on Bilstein dampers and RoW height springs. From the pictures below, you can see my Bilstein PNs match your PNs. Furthermore, you can see my springs are progressive. You can also get a feel of where my spring perches are set and the resultant ride height. (I didn't touch any of these settings --- I was happy w/ the way the previous owner had them set so I didn't touch them).
Doing a search of the rennlist archives in these two separate threads:
https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...-or-lower.html
https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...-not-know.html
I've also been able to deduce that my car, which has 2 red dots on the rear springs, has M029 springs. The below is a concatenation of some valuable bits that I found in the above two threads.
*** NOTE --- the options M029/30/33/002/etc I got from Viken's old post on 11-5-2001. I tried to cross index that with Phil's information on spring colors, but it appears that there is some conflicting information ---- For instance by Phil's assertion the red dots might indicate my springs are RoW M029 on 10-24-2006, but by Mike in Chi's post on 10-26-2006, red dots in the rear indicate 993 Turbo springs (my car is clearly not a Turbo).
Anyways .... I'm not certain of the color coding as there is so much conflicting info, but I thought references to these old threads might help. I hope this helps.
For the 993, there were four [4] different ride heights. Taking the US height as a reference, here's how they were:
1- M032 - USA/Canada ride height (this includes USA M030 Sport option)
2- M029 - Standard ROW ride height - 20 mm lower front/10 mm lower rear
coil spring=993.343.531.00
marking is RED
3- M033 - Lowered ROW ride height - 30 mm lower all-around *
coil spring= 993.343.531.04
marking is BLUE
4- M030 - Sport ROW ride height - 30 mm lower all-around
coil spring = 965.343.531.01
marking is ORANGE/GREEN
5- M002 - Carrera RS ride height - 50 mm lower all-around
* M033 was standard on ROW Carrera S and 4S cars and M030 was an option which did not lower these two models. M033 was also an option on regular Carrera and Carrera 4 cars.

So as an update, the springs haven't been cut, they are just that short. There is no progressive portion to them at all, and as such ride horribly on what will 95% of the time will be a street car. I am now actively trying to find a set of ROW M033s. To add to my already enormous amount of questions, looks like my rotors are wearing a bit and will need replacement in the next year or so. Can anyone tell me if these are stock C2 brakes that have been painted, or big reds? Thanks!! Really appreciate all the advice from everyone.
