Its the cars coming out party - Sandy and I are taking the 993 to Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet complete with a new red/white/blue GD decal and the new Illinois plate SMNY RDS - its 'So Many Roads' which was coincidentally the very last song the band played here in Chicago in 1995.

Awesome! My dead viewing days did not involve anything as nice as a P-car... my 1985 Volkswagon Rabbit GTI was a stretch at the time... I loved that car and those times!

400 shows? And I thought my 137 shows was alot!!! (+ 65 Jerry Garcia Band shows). Yeah - have fun at the shows! I'm jealous. I've had my 5 inch "Steal Your Face" dead sticker (see upgrade pics below
) on my car since the day I got it. It's on all my cars. It always has been, since 1979. Childish I guess, but it makes me happy.
I just saw The Dead at Merriweather Post Pavillion in Columbia Md and took my 993, but I drove up alone. It's not the same, driving to a show by yourself...
Great show. Lots of people still smoking pot where I sat/stood in the 7th row. I guess getting high is still in vogue. I felt kind of old (42).

I saw the Dead for the first time in Golden Gate Park in the summer of '67 so I got started a few years before you did!
I 'graduated' from the '66 911 to a '66 VW bus so that made it a little easier to transport all my friends along to the shows.
Some of the more memorable one's were: the New Year's Eve show's in San Fransisco at the Cow Palace and the Warfield. They would actually serve us all breakfast the next morning!
We were at the Porsche Parade in Portland, OR when Jerry died. All our Porsche friends knew how much of a DeadHead I was and came to our room with red roses and long faces..............
Here's the plate that we used for years on several vehicles before we moved to Arkansas............

Robert, hang on to that California plate, it's a real keeper.
I went on the summer tour every year for 10 years from 1979 to 1989, including some traveling in an old 914 1.7 with a buddy of mine.
One of our road trips involved seeing the Dead play at a venue in Toronto, Canada. Tip number one to fellow Porsche/Dead heads crossing the border back into the U.S.: if you are driving an old Porsche covered in Grateful Dead stickers, do not be surprised if you attract just a little bit of extra attention at the border station. Tip number two: if you act just the slightest bit irritated at this extra attention, you can look forward to spending some extra "quality time" with the border cops. Tip number three: you will likely be shocked at your newfound prowess at the "LeMans Start" at the conclusion of your quality time with the border cops

Ha ... only 80 shows for me, but I lived in Florida for too many years and they rarely got down there. Many long drives to Hampton VA and Charlotte NC, though.
Anybody in Boston who likes the Dead should come see Electric Hummus. http://www.electrichummus.com ... check out the MP3 files.
(I am in the band and manage to wedge all my keyboard gear into my Carrera 4.)
More Dead/Porsche content: Does anyone remember when Vanity Fair had Bob Weir review the then-new 964 Carrera 2? He liked it, but said it lacked some of the character of the older 911s, as I recall.
So many roads to ease my soul ...
