Thinking of selling...really
No. Not another value thread.
With the values where they are, I'm thinking of selling by beloved 993. For it and a few bucks, a 997.1 is a no brainer, and a .2 within easy reach. The 997 is undeniably a better car, and it is probably cheaper to run. I know that 993s are special. Mine has been unbelievably reliable. It has been far and away the best car I have ever owned.
But it's just a car. I'm feeling that it might be time to move on while the movin' is good. I just got a RAnge Rover for the wife and the luxury is nice... A 997 gets you a lot of lux with performance...
Does anyone else feel this way? Should I just let you guys lynch me? Any compelling "don't do it" arguments?
BTW, if I do sell, I'm going to try to hit it out of the park for a 178,000 mile car... I don't know if I'll post it here. I'll be asking a price that isn't in the spirit of this forum...

Sounds like you know what you're doing... I too have thought of getting out while the getting is good, but I'm too lazy
Good luck with the sale, and good luck with the search.

I know how you feel. 997s are very nice. You can switch between comfort and aggression with a touch of the PASM button. I'd opt for a .2 if you can swing it. And nothing wrong with asking whatever you like for it. If someone buys it at that price - great!

No doubt the 997 is an overall better performer, as are many other cars, but for me, there is the visceral part of it, which keeps me in the 993.
If I made the decision from a financial and performance perspective, there are certainly other alternatives that would be better choices than the 993, however, for me, those are lower on my priority list.
Only you can set the order of your priorities, and make the best choice for what you want.
Clearly a dilemma, as the 997 is quite the looker.

I have had the same thoughts from time to time, but I love my 993 too much to let it go right now. Not to say I wouldn't consider it in the future though.

I have had thoughts about selling for a 996tt lately. As prices rise and other high performance cars become feasible in the same price range it is hard not to think about. If a Cayman R or GT3 was in the same price range it would be much harder to resist.

I am right there with you. Not sure I would sell on the forum either, I want to take advantage of all people out there paying too much for these cars. I'm thinking of switching to a 997TT though, just so much more car in every single measure than a 993. Not sure if I would go for a straight 997. Drove a 991 this past summer and it did nothing for me, enjoyed a standard Boxster I drove much more.

The thought has cross my mine also but I would go for a Cayman and yes the timing seems like it is good .
My decision would not be base on the shape andneat driving characteristics of the 993 vs other P-car it is because at the stage of my life I am at . Creature comforts are very appealing as a/c , PDK and cup holders . I would just explain it as downsizing .

Keep the 993! Buy a 997.
I have a 997 and bought a 993 after.
I love both! Very different technology but 2 of the best generation.
