Thinking of selling...really

As stated already, only trade for a GT3 or TT. Otherwise for sure keep the 993.
If you've had your 993 for a long time, as soon as you drive the 997.1/2, you'll notice an immediate visceral driver disconnect in comparison to your 993. Would be curious to hear your feedback once your spend some time in one.

FYI a freind recently bought an 07 GT3 and installed complete OEM rear seat(s) for his twin sons to enjoy the experience.
I'm pretty sure that Mark D of FD moto did the same thing.
They can be nice but if it were my money i would only consider bullet proof DFI motor which is 2009-2012. (2005-2008 have had documented failures, too many IMHO).
I own a couple GT3s and a couple of 993s. Love them all. If to have only one 911 to do it all it would have to be the GT3.
The 993 is indeed just a great car to drive. It is so small and fun.
A 997.2 Carrera is not as small or fun, but it is still is a blast to drive compared to other cars. It has all the modern comforts which is nice compared to 993.
PDK is excellent if you live in high traffic areas.
You wouldnt go wrong with a Carrera GTS...

The problem w. rear seats in a GT3 is that the cars were not built this way from the factory. And yes, unlike the RSAs back in the day, all the mounting points are present, but... If you are involved in an accident and especially if somebody gets hurt, you can end up in a world of legal trouble for modifying the car and fitting in passengers where they are not supposed to be. I looked long and hard into this and it was the main reason why I opted for a TT. I also found a decent looking one, so that helped with my choice a little bit as well.

I've owned my 993 for just over 10 years and absolutely love it. Honestly I hadn't noticed the run in values until a few weeks ago when I started spending more time on this forum and saw all the value threads.
Five years ago I decided I had to have an orange GT3RS and started saving my milk money. I could have picked it up a couple of years ago if I was willing to part with the 993, but I just couldn't do it. I've seen countless 993 owners move up only to return a few years later, and have also seen how many of the GT3 guys seem to be picking up 964s and 993s as secondary fun cars, etc. All of that let me know that although I would love my RS, the 993 has a soul of its own that isn't replicated in the modern cars.

I have owned both a 997.1 S and a 997 TT. Right now, I would take either of those or a 997 Carrera GTS, or new Cayman S or GTS over the 993S I currently have. Thank God I have the RS 4.0 to drive as well.
The 997 cars are fast, reliable, sporty, and comfortable but not at all soft. I hope one day I will get the whole 993 thing, but thus far I don't. I don't think you will be unhappy with any 997. Good luck with your decision.

i sold my 997.1S so i could purchase a '97 C4S before it was too late. i wouldn't hesitate to make the same move again. one is continuing to depreciate (rapidly - minus possibly the GT3) while the other is appreciating in value and desirability. i found the 997 a bit too composed and competent to really be fun to drive on a day to day basis - and mine had the standard suspension, exhaust, 200 cats, short shift, etc. mods. the 993 is a bit more raw, has a much better sound and is more engaging to drive. personal opinions, obviously.

I think everyone agrees the 997 is a fantastic car, particularly in GT3/RS spec. And it will run circles around a 993 from a performance standpoint. My only issue is that there are very few moments where you can wring any fun out of a 997 on the street, which makes the 993 such a compelling option. I daily drive my 993 and 90% of the time, I am having a blast in this car, even going to the grocery store averaging 30 MPH. Only time it sucks is when traffic is really bad. I've driven a 997 Carrera and under 60 MPH, it feels like a Camry that is lowered with a smaller cabin. No offense. On the track, the 997 must be a beast and a hoot to drive.
To me, the optimal scenario is to own both but if I had to choose, 993 all day and buy a BMW M5 for daily/street driving. At least you get some practicality with a 4-door.

I went from a 997 to 993.
The pluses for me were:
- better looking
- can do own maintenance
- smaller car
- no depreciation
- more fun to drive
The negatives were:
- stereo was worse
- not as fast
- noisier car (engine noise aside)
Regrets -none
I have played with getting a 997 beater (05/06 with retro IMS bearing done) and running it into the ground (work commute/winter), in addition to keeping the 993
These can be had for @ $32K +/- either way

My first Porsche was a 993. I owned it for for a couple years and sold it. I new I made a mistake when it left my driveway. The next summer I bought a 996 cab and had that for a year. Not half the car that the 993 was. I drove a buddy's 997 S about a 1000 miles and still did not like it on the street for the above listed reasons. I could not stand it any longer and contacted the guy I sold the 993 too and bought it back last fall. Once again a happy man. Just picked up a 356 and it is fun. In even a different way. I finally understand the saying"it is more fun to drive a slow car fast then a fast car slow." If I want to go fast I drive my Superformance Cobra!

I'd say if you can afford to keep the 993 - keep it!
I love the old s'coolness of my 993S and is a keeper. If I need comfort and luxury I have it all and more in my SUV.
But for future cruising and touring I can see room for a comfortable cab in the garage - really liking that new BoxterS.......

I feel like the new 911's (with the exception of the GTxx cars) are excellent GT cars but have lost their sports car roots. If I sold my 993 I would be looking for a Cayman S or a Lotus as a replacement.
But then, I like abuse

More fun to drive...In what way? What does that mean to you?
I feel that the 997 is more fun to drive because the steering feels more precise and the throttle response is better. It is fun for me to break free the rear end of a 911. That was easy to do with my 997S, but I can't do it in the 993 (on the street) because of its lack of power. How is the 993 more fun to drive for you?
