Default early Porsche 911 Rear Quarter Window in 993?

Hi,

I have always missed having the pop-out type rear quarter windows in the later 911s. I just got an 96 993 C4 and am feeling the desire again.

Does anyone know if the pop-out type rear quarters can be put into a 993?
Or has anyone actually done it?

Thanks!!

I've often wondered the same thing, only on the front quarter windows. Hopefully someone chimes in.

It's true. We would have to know if the 993 doors and window frames are the same as earlier cars, I suppose. I bet someone knows this.

I'm sure someone will post something more definitive, but I'll guess the main problem on the rear quarters are that both the hinge (B Pillar) end and the latch (C Pillar) end have receptacles welded/otherwise fastened onto the chassis.

As far as the front quarter, where there's a will there's a way--biggest obstacle probably being making flat black trim out of chrome.

Funny I was just preparing a post on this subject. My kids miss the hinged rear quarters that are on my e30. And front ones would be really handy to get some air thru the cabin.

Not sure these could be retrofitted without destroying the elegant lines. I would think that the frames and trim would get thicker in appearance...especially if decent seals are provided.

Who's gonna buy a salvaged door and rear quarter to experiment?

I put pop out rear quarter windows on one my 993's.
All the mounting holes are there you just have to remove the trim on the B pilar, mount the window and screw down the rear latch through the head liner. But first you have to remove your rear shelf and make a new one.

I put my windows in when I re uphstered the interior. I also used the bottom ext trim from a 69 911 and had it anodized black.

Why does the rear shelf have to be redone?

The rear shelf is about 4-5 inches higher than an early car.

Bump this. Edinsf, I've researched this a little and the only thing I'm concerned about is the rear shelf modification. Pics in 993 would be awesome

I'd love to do both front and rear quarter windows.

My '93 Alfa Spider had fronts. And a convertible!

They windows are dimensionally the same.. The caveat is whether or not the 993 has the threaded boss at the rear to accept the handle, and the slots on the B pillar to accept the hinge. I'll have to check and get back in a week or so.

Assume you're talking about the opening wing windows? You would have to change the complete window frame in the door.. which would take you back to chrome, as opposed to the black aluminum frame you have now. You would also loose the little seal that runs around the top edge of the frame that seals when the door is closed.
