Default FS: 993 G50 mainshaft+1st gear (for regear)

I'm selling the mainshaft/1st gear unit from my early 1995 993 transmission. This would be useful to regear 2nd - 6th gear, as 2nd gear is not integral to the mainshaft as in later model years. The changeover happened during the 1995 model year at serial number 02693. The stock 1st gear ratio is 3.818.

Steve Weiner and Jeff Gamroth are currently regearing my transmission and I decided to go with a taller 1st. Upon opening up my gearbox, they noted everything was in remarkably good condition as my car has been gently driven and never tracked or abused (the PO, an older gentleman, was as gentle to the car as I have been). The part in question is in very good condition.

I will respond to the the PMs in order. I am cross-posting this in the 993 section and the For Sale sections.

The piece is still in Steve's possession, and he can attest to its condition or answer any questions if you're interested in having his shop perform the regear. Otherwise, he'll ship it directly to you. He can be reached at 503-244-0990.

These are currently going for around $2400 new, I'm asking $1800.

Darn good deal for anyone with a '96-'98 993 who is thinking about a re-gear.

I think you need to do a better job of marketing.
with all the commentary on this board about how great a re-gear is, you should be getting more traffic, or your asking price is too high.
(i have no idea of market value)
like most things, marketing and price are the two key elements in perceived value.

good luck.

ps, I like your avatar, but last week's was even more interesting

Hmm...I'll have to put some more pizzazz in my copy.

HOWDY FOLKS! Krazy Kaufman here. Is your 993 feeling a little heavy in the hips after driving your neighbor's econobox? Has her "GET UP AND GO" done got up and went? Well, step right up and get yourself a regear.

I tell you, after driving a 993 with a proper regear, I immediately turned towards Miramar Base to race jets like motherf$king Maverick in Top Gun. You too can cut through traffic like Steve McQueen outdriving an army of T-1000 terminators on Harleys ... but only if you buy this part. Got a problem with pesky hoons constantly looking to beat you off the line with their disposable trashheaps? In the heat of battle, your regeared machine will manifest itself as a fire-breathing, hoon-eating dragon. Nothing will remain but their charred corpses and your tire marks! Your regeared steed will truly become an extension of your body.

WARNING: After installing this mainshaft in your regear, you might occasionally find it difficult to drive because your massive erection will interfere with steering.

Sonnen lists this for $2058.94, but tax in California is 7.5% so $2054.94 + $154 = $2209.06 before shipping.

The price is fair. I realize people don't undertake $8000 - $12,000 regearing projects on their 993s everyday, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if it takes some time to sell, and that's fine. I have had some interest in PM's already. Hopefully, my occasional bumping of the thread doesn't drive you to apoplexy. Thanks for the advice, anyway.

Its a quality part in great condition and, moreover, the ability to dial in the relationship between every gear is a massive advantage when undertaking a regear. Personally, I find the stock 1st to 2nd drop to be unacceptable. My preference is to do big upgrades right the first time, and I suspect there are others who share this philosophy.

Steve has another one of these mainshafts for sale if anyone else needs one. It is out of my '95 box which I suspect is next to Josh's on Steve's workbench. It sounds like Josh and I are having the identical regear done. I was waiting to see how well Josh did with selling this part and hopefully someone else out there needs one. You can call Steve directly at (503) 244-0990 or pm me here with your number and I will get back to you.

Thank you Craig. The resulting post from callipygian 911 was 993 comedy gold! Bravo, callipygian 911, bravo! How the heck do you come up with "Charred corpses and tire marks...." So THIS is why we did those creative writing exercises back in school...
