Looking for the serial number sequence (range) that denotes a 993 cup car engine. I've seen information posted for RS engines but not engines that came from a cup car. Also, what if any are the differences between an RS and an engine that came out of a 993 cup car.

RS vs Cup Engine
RS
All RS used 3.8 Varioram engines ~300hp
Stock style exhaust, mufflers were a different part number though.
RS Cams for Hydraulic lifters.
Cup
All Cups Used 3.8 With Plastic Intake ('95 style) with no MAF ~310 to 315 hp
More aggressive cams, mechanical lifters
The Cups had no heat and a gutted cat, with near stock muffers
Perfect; thanks. Were they all 3.8L non varioram engines (RS and Cup)?
Pretty much as Trophy outlined
RS and RS/CS are all vram
Cup used a plastic '95 type manifold w/o maf, the fuel mixture was set vis w/ tps and map using a modified 55pin Motronic brain
I don't think this adds much to the conversation but I like to post pics. This car was on display at the 2009 PCA Parade in Keystone CO. The sign labeled it a 1997 993 Carrera Cup 3.8 RSR.
^^ The above photograph exhibits a rather odd phenomena to digital photography where the correct exposure of the engine compartment registers red but the rest of the red car blows out yellow orange. Sorry, not to hijack the thread.

Now I have to post couple more pics. Is this a Cup or an RSR? Are they the same thing?
Looks like the real deal RSR (at least from photos....
An easy give away is that the cup does not have the central fuel tank filler or the Gt2 style bolt on arches...That's without looking at the engine ancillaries.
Cup and RSR are both narrow body, Gt2 has the bolt on arches on the wider body and a different rear spoiler to the car shown, to avoid confusion!

That's an RSR, they used a very different engine from the 993Cup
993RSR - M64/75 w/ ITBs and an aluminum resonance manifold, cam timing 80, 114, 104,65, 4.6mm@ overlap, also used g50/30 but had an optional g50/34 w/ cooler and 8:32 cwp
