Spring time exercise
So I Autocross, but have not done it in a 993 for a few seasons now. After being handed the keys to a GT3 it's hard to say no.
Anyway, we had a good day here up in Seattle, the Sun was out (for Seattle) it was dry (again for Seattle, the grass was soaked) and it was warm *(over 45 deg).
We did some fun runs after the event, and I took out the old C4S, used my data acquisition system to see some telemetry over my GT3 runs.
I was just over 2 sec slower then the GT3, but I'm heaver, have over 100hp less plus my crappy S04 tires. But still this would have been 1st in class by .5 sec, so still a good time. I placed 2nd in class in the GT3 loosing to the cars owner by less then .1 sec and was the 2nd top time for a Porsche that day, even with the race tire prepped cars.

The GT3 run, man that engine likes to REV!

So.........was I glad there was an autocross "plus" a couple of weeks ago as I wandered through Phoenix? Yes. Kinda like Stealth above, I hadn't done one in 15+ years. Ended up 1st on street tires, 8th overall. Good enough to wake me up, and understand a couple of things on the Turbo before I hit a new-to-me track in Chuckwalla this weekend to instruct with the SD Region BMW folks.
Was able to make a couple of changes on the car, and pull my time down nearly 3 seconds from initial run(s) recon mode (67-->64-->61). Fastest time was 55 in a three time SCCA National Champion Elise; fastest "normal" car was a Z06 'Vette at 58 seconds on Hoosiers.
Odd thing is that with autocross you can get good feedback in being able to confirm your ability to read a line Right Now, and adjust the next run. On track you're pretty much dialed in after 3-4 laps, even on a new-to-you course.
(I do miss the Olden Days autocrosses I was able to set up when I lived in Phoenix--I'd make sure we'd hit top of 3rd unless we were at the one small parking lot. And then there were the San Diego Zone 8 events at Jack Murphy where I'd usually nearly top out 4th.)
It also makes you WAY better on the track, you learn the limits of the car at 1/2 to 1/3rd the speed. It's also really good for dialing in the car.
I do it because it's cheap (wife doesn't like $500 track days and $2000 track rubber) super competitive and I have a great bunch of guys who I do it with, plus I get to drive a GT3, all I do is show up.
I also love the track, but don't want to take a pristine 993 out there that much, I do a couple a year or more as other people let me use their cars!

I use a ODBII interface and external GPS

Thanks, I do as well
My buddy Paul, he just got it late last year. I also run his 996 last year.
I had a rough season last year, had the oldest slowest car in class, usually was around 3-6th place. I'm hoping this year will be better!
The GT3 was smooth, the C4S was a little over driven, but with AWD and understeer it's the only way to be "fast".
Sure, you'll come out, you said that last year, and the year before that....
