Thumbs up Getting TPC Supercharger Installed

Ok, I know a lot of you hate the idea of adding a supercharger for a variety of reasons, but for me it's all about the FUN! I really love most everything about the 993, but have always felt it to be a bit underpowered. My chipped '09 VW GTI feels like it pulls harder (seat-of-the-pants feeling, never measured) than the 993. I didn't want to go with a 993TT, as 1) I don't want to give up the open-top CAB, 2) I don't like the look of the turbo wing, and 3) turbos are insanely expensive in today's market. Some years back I installed a supercharger kit on my BMW 318ti, and it completely transformed the car; I'm hoping for something similar for my 993. I'm driving down to TPC to have them do the installation, so hoping it goes with the fewest issues.

Thanks much to all the folks here on Rennlist for all the information and opinions, and especially to the folks I have communicated with directly!

Search the archives. Many have gone the TPC supercharger route.

Best of luck

You are going to enjoy the SC. For daily and street driving, they can't be beat. The increase in torque is impressive. And you can't do better than TPC working the car directly.

If you don't mind me asking, what's their install pricing?

Thanks. Yes, I've searched, and searched, and... That's how/where I got a lot of the information from.

PLEASE, you're killing me!! I have to wait 6 weeks for TPC to get the supercharger from Eaton, then another 3 for them to install and tune the kit!

$2835 plus a bit more for them to install new plugs, wires, etc. I'm also having them do a run on the dyno prior to installing the kit in order to get a baseline.

They quoted me around the same. It's every bit of 30+ hours to install. They've probably got it down to 28.35 hours LOL. I simply decided I was fully capable of completing the install myself and could spend the $3k on something else... like plugs, wires, caps, rotors, valve covers w/ gaskets, oil temp sensor, oil pressure sender, full fabspeed RSR headers/exhaust and a CDR-220. I might have splurged a bit

You'll love it... I'm not even finished mine and I guarantee it.

It is definitely a fun project, like a new suspension install where you will see improvement after the work.

Actually, their estimate is 27 hours. Some years back I installed a supercharger kit on my BMW 318ti, but haven't done that type of work in a while, and at this point would prefer someone else do it that hopefully knows what they're doing more than I would!

I'm looking forward to hearing how it works out for you. Do you have an idea when you'll have it completed?

Do you currently have the TPC kit installed on your car? If so, did you install it yourself?

I installed mine. That 30+ hours is accurate if you know what you're doing or done it before.

Me too, LOL. I'm being lazy... it's cold in the garage! Hahaha... I'm shooting for Hershey (April 19th)... We'll see. This week is supposed to be in the 60's. I just need the garage to warm up, haha. Also, my engine carrier and that cast aluminum heat tube bolted to it (and tin) dont seem to want to come apart... stubborn allen bolts. Need a torch...

As soon as I get that apart, I need to put the pulleys on, mount the tensioner bracket to carrier, put the carrier back up w/ Wevo mounts, install throttle body (and mod the throttle cable stop), wire up Unichip modules (for now... programmable ECU coming later), mount intercooler, run intercooler water lines and radiator up to passenger side front fender, wire up water pump, mount headers/exhaust, install my H&R swaybars, and bolt bumper/lights back up. It's a bit... nothing too terrible.
