One reason why prices are crazy
Some folks here have posted some really horrible-looking 356's, which have been bought for something like $60K-ish +/-. Who really knows where the 993 market will go, but I'm betting it will be up with an occasional crash or two along the way.
you're thinking, "should I get the new 911 or the classic old new one while I still can?"
the 993 isn't too much money... you know it looks perfect. it feels perfect. your gut tells you it is perfect...

then you walk up to a new 911, "oh Jesus, this is a big car....looks so long..."
it is long... it drives long.... "Jesus, what the hell did they do to the 911?"
so you take the 993....

.
Anyway, all this talk about "crash"........uh huh. We'll all have a LOT more to worry about when that above-mentioned base coupe that's white hot in price today, with say 80K miles, is back to being a sub-$30K car.

i had been driving an almost new 944 for a few years when i discovered Porsche had fixed the fenders on the 911 and were calling it the 993 (a great day in automotive history, btw. add one more reason to own a 993)....
i didn't have the money then. and when they changed the body in '98, i was incredulous, not to mention pissed. but my live-in gf and i were spending 8 months a year outside the United States running a surf camp. we were a 3 car couple in the states including an '89 C4 (her's from daddy), and i was in an Audi 90 a couple of years later added an '89 928 S4.... our Mexico vehicles consisted of 2 Ford Escapes. no, I wasn't smart/(re; wealthy) enough to get a 993.... (was there a post-production window of well-priced cars?)
I haven't dumped much money into cars the last few years. I've been improving 2 rental properties and just daily driving my 968, keeping it serviced, adding 120 k miles doing quite a lot of traveling and modifications to the car..... next month, the 968 is getting a blueprinted Chevy LS7 (Scoggin-Dickey, Lubbock, TX) and 200mph rebuilt trans to be installed at Eric Hill's shop in Alvarado, TX.... it should be a very fun car.
i wanted to add a rear or mid-engine car for some time. for a while i thought i could cheat - get a 964 and just do a fender/front valance conversion (I'm a *****) but now the 964s are getting near silly $$$ for peasants like me.
btw, your projects are epic.

Weissach Vancouver is struggling to get decent 964s or 993s anymore. The supply is just not there. You have to get creative to find cars that aren't listed.

He said "what you and I believe are high prices the overseas buyers don't and will pay top dollar" If you have a 993 keep it and if you want one you had better get moving on one…
