Rolo,

I have the "033" on my '95 coupe - gives 10mm at the front and 20mm at the rear. Looks slightly better than the standard set up and although it doesn't seem to be much I need to be careful not to damage the bottom of the front PU - when I purchased the car one corner panel was so bad I replaced it and the other side plus main PU needed a paint job. OK now and at least I an now aware of the potential for damage.

I guess it depends what you want to lower the car for - mine was a factory fit - if you want some serious handling benefits I expect some of the track guys can suggest something better than the stock 033.

I'm ready to install the ROW's myself. My question is what is the difference in ride (i.e. stiffness, rebound, etc.) with the ROW struts/shocks vs the new Bilstein's (extra threads) that Gert has for sale?

I know the ROW shocks do not last very long, but other than that are there differences?

Just a point of clarification. Most people refer to M030 as ROW. I thought M033 is/was different from M030.

It is. M033 is just a "lowered" option which offers similar ride qualities to the standard ROW M029 suspension. M033 was standard on both ROW C2S and C4S cars while the M030 was an option. M033 lowers a US car the same as the ROW M030.

Here's how it was for the 993:

- M032 USA standard on Carrera
- M030 USA sport on Carrera and standard Turbo
- M029 ROW standard on Carrera
- M033 ROW lowered on Carrera
- M030 ROW sport on Carrera and standard Turbo

Sorry, I mis-read the option number. However, I still have the same question basically.

Are there any differences between the M030 ROW set-up with factory shocks/struts vs the M030 ROW springs with Bilstein shock/struts with extra threads.

Thanks

The springs are the same but the shocks are a bit different in terms of valving. The Bilstein is slightly firmer and less harsh than the factory shock. Also, it is bound to last 4 or more times longer. The factory shocks have somewhat of a short life span.

Viken,

1) How does the Bilstein HD accomplish being more firm but less harsh than the factory M030 shock? Is it due to the design of the shock itself?

2) How would you compare a RoW M030 w/ Bilstein HD setup to the H&R Sport w/ Bilstein HD setup? I've read conflicting comments on which is stiffer, though I understand that the H&R lowers the car more (even with the now-available extra threads on the Bilstein/M030). What about Eibach vs. H&R?

Better engineered shock with different valving values.

I wouldn't touch Eibach springs. They are too soft and eventually sag. H&R is much better but still a bit too soft for a good match with the Bilstein shocks. I have the ROW M030 springs on mine and like it very much.

Interesting; my US M030 shocks with Euro M030 springs have been on the car for 65K+ miles. Shocks still feel fine.

Rolo, I have the M030, I got it because I did'nt like the stock US ride height. But I did'nt want the ride to be too harsh for the street. I think you can really beat the snot out of a car driving on less than perfect roads with alot of these stiff suspensions. So far I like it, the M033 could maybe benefit with stiffer swaybars.

Could it be that you have become a *numb* nut like the rest of us?

Viken,
Thanks for the input. I live on Long Island -- HORRIBLE roads. Do you think the RoW M030 with HDs is not too stiff for the street? I do some DEs, but the car is primarily a street car (local and long distance drives). I don't want to beat the car up on the moonscape we call roads.

Considering I drive on these tank traps called roads in western PA, M030 with Euro/lowered springs should be OK for you. For info, have relatives in NJ, NYC, LI, and CN, so know what roads are like out there.
