Default 1967 Vette - help me exorcise the demon!!!

After the Rolex 24, spent some time in S. Florida and stopped by Champion Porsche. The dealer itself was a waste of time, did not see anything interesting really... except for this bad boy. I am not an expert, but it was a really clean restoration, simply stunning. Now I can't stop thinking about it!

Lots of classic Amercan car experts lurk here - what do you think? I am not running out to buy anything, just would be interested in thoughts about this type of car. Maybe if you tell me it's a piece of junk, I will stop thinking about it?

Not likely... what a beauty.

The 63 never came with a big block 427 therefore it would explain why your uncles drove like ****.
The 61 had a solid rear axle and drum brakes. Not a world beater by any means nor a good vette to compare.

I had a 66 Vet for 10 years that I restored and used for shows and club events.

They are nice to look at, not so nice to drive (noisy, rattles, leaks).

The big block cars (as shown in your picture) are counterfeited quite often.

If you want a car to show once in a while, drive rarely, and will hold it's value - the right midyear Vet can fulfill all of those requirements,

You have to very careful buying one of these due to several issues such as poor bodywork, fake cars, rust and the list goes on.

You best place to look in places like the NCRS website and Hemmings - but hire an expert to check the car out.

$ can add up on these things quick.

Also, when the economy tanked in 2008, many part suppliers went out of business - so restoration and parts costs doubled due to decresed vendors.

OP

The 1963-1967 corvette body style is one of the greatest vettes of all time.

They have independant rear suspension and can be tweaked to ride and handle really nice depending on how much you upgrade aftermarket.

Starting in 1965 the big block engines were introduced as well as four wheel disc brakes.

Values have held well on them, especially 1967 models being the last year of them.

I have a 1963 convert in which i added four wheel discs and an ipod cable to the stock rebuilt radio.
It is alot of fun to drive given its age and shape.

Roadsters generally command more money. Especially big block cars.

Personally, as a driver i like small block cars with no power options. Light weight and simple. Less chance of over heating in traffic. But that said i wouldnt turn down a big block either. Just beautiful to look at and gobs of torque. I let one get away and kills me to this day.

The coupe at champion looks great.
Has bolt-on wheels, red line tires, side pipes and low hp 427 option.
Silver on red is beautiful, especially with the red stinger stripe.
The color combo with red stinger is so rare that I would ask if it is original or custom?? I have never seen it before. Red interior is also harder to find in the 67 model year as it was more of a early 60's thing.

If the powertrain is number matching and the trim tag shows the color combo as correct then i think you should buy it with your heart especially if they have the owner history from new.

Check out www.Proteam-corvettes.com to get an idea of market.

Here is my early production, 340hp 1963. (NCRS top flite in 1990)

Agree 100% I have owned several Vette's over the years and would disagree with the statement that mid year (1963-1967) don't drive good. I have driven a few and owned one and it drove great. Actually pretty amazing for it's year. From what I have read the pre 63 cars drive like a logging truck, but look nice. They actually used that suspension from 1963-1982. 1967 427's are an icon so the price will be high. There is no details in the link for the car so there is a lot of missing pieces to figure out a value. Is it numbers matching, how old is the restoration, has it been NCRS judged and has it won any Top Flight awards? Is it a real 427 car? If everything is there, and the car is in #1 condition that might be a decent price. Love the color combo, I have a friend that has the same car in a tri-power roadster.

I dunno about exorcising it, but I can certainly help you exercise it if it's in your garage come June!

I know nothing of Vettes... But I think the C2 Corvette is the second most beautiful design to ever come from america. Second only to the Ford GT.

I owned a Sunfire Yellow 1966 427 Corvette Convertible for 20+ years. It wasn't numbers matching, but appeared original, though with aluminum AFR heads/540ci/Tremec 5-speed, custom-made headers and factory sidepipes. The sidepipe mufflers were again, original appearing, but the insides were aftermarket performance-oriented. Everything was replaced or rebuilt on that car and it drove great.

Fantastic cars, but ultimately, I sold it to buy an aluminum-bodied Kirkham Cobra.

Buy one.
