Years ago a red key usually meant a "Valet" key that only operates the door lock and ignition and not the other compartments of the car.

Default Red key

Have you tried the red key in all locks?

Back in the 70s Porsche issued Black Keys which worked in all locks. They also issued a red key which did not working all locks. My memory was that it would turn the car on but you could not unlock the glove box or the cable to the truck.

I've never seen the little baby key (chained to the red key in the same picture) either. Anyone know the story behind that one?

The baby is a slimline one you can keep in your wallet in case you loose your main.

I have one, came with the two switch blade keys. I've only had my car for a few months and haven't played with it, but was told it is a Valet key. With the imobilizer, not sure how it works but have to assume it locks the frunk and glove compartment in such a way that the real keys can't. I'll take a peek at the owners Manual again. I read it back in September and don't remember anything specific about it.

Otherwise, if it is just a copy of the other keys it is really worthless except for using to cut a new blank.

Ahh... I finally think how the "valet" key is used. I would call it more of an emergency key.

It could be a key that is hidden in the vehicle.

Based on a few different threads I've read on rennlist. This is how I think it would work if lost all your other keys:

I'm typing this on my iphone so no knowledgable way to link to other threads so bear with me. Search will find the related threads.

The key will unlock the door if the original was locked in the car. But if the remotes were lost, the programming instructions you can use your car key by entering your code by entering the 4 digit number by moving the key on and off. Once the code is entered. The car can be started, or remote FOBs be programmed.

Therefore if you have this key you could, if you know the code, start the car and take it to a dealer to get new FOB's.

So it could be handy to hide on the car in case of emergency.

This scenario makes sense to me.

I still think its been painted. Valet key doesnt open glove box or trunk if lockable. Small headed key is just a normal blade without a big head on, there is no difference to any other blade

If that key belongs to the Exclusive car shown in the documentation to the right, it is likely part of the Exclusive interior full leather 'package,' if you can call it that.

Obviously, at Exclusive, you can pick and choose what you want. If you so desired, you could have a key covered in leather that matches the interior (or probably any color you wanted).

That car was a demonstrational car for the Exclusive program and probably is decked out. It also has a red interior, which would explain the color.

I don't think there is a specific part number for such things.

Take care,
