Default New Targa at Detroit

The new Targa made its debut in Detroit. Huge crowds watching the roof open and close. The centre roof panel is a cloth and the whole rear of the car lifts to make room for the centre panel. The rear window is a wrap around design that looks fantastic. With the roof up it looks great, very sleek, almost retro. The aluminum trim covers the roll bar.
Sold as a Targa4 for or Targa4S.

This is the 3rd (maybe 4th?) thread about it... Some discussion about it in the other threads on page 2.

A super complicated and heavy roof mechanism located near the top of the car which is not as structurally sound or quiet as a coupe, and not as open as a convertible for nearly the price of a new Turbo.

No thanks.

i was really surprised by how complicated (and yet simple for the driver/owner) they made the Targa mechanism. personally, i'd rather pull and stow my own roof and eliminate all the mechanics. that must not be part of the new Porsche buyer demographics.

The price is $115,000 CDN for the Targa4 $132,000 for the Targa4S. Not turbo money...

I agree with the sentiment that this is too complicated and too expensive to be worth buying. Nah.

The Turbo lists around $150K.

So a Targa S at $132K isn't much difference in price, like I said

At that price point, I'd rather have a fast Turbo than a chopped convertible/coupe. The price difference is smaller when you're dropping over six-figures.

I was just there 2 hours ago... The targa is just another targa - no love from me... However, the Macan is very nice, the 991ts is incredible and the 918 'room' was simply stunning.... Interesting that there was no GT3 on the stand.

I was watching Youtubes of this early this morning, I kinda liked the look. I love the rear wrap around window and that silver center part is kinda retro classy. I like it

not sure Id buy it but I like it

Default The Neu 991 Targa ... Is it the next Red headed step son . . . ?

+1 Agreed, in spades. Heavy, complex and costly for the few ....

But,, dam'it if PAG hadn't taken the effort for a Targa continuum ..... Its part of the 911s DNA.
Looks great. As a fan of the original Targa years, I'm a buyer of the right 964 Targa in a NY minute.

2003 Mercedes SL bashing all over again. Same criticism from the same minority of people who weren't even considered as a target pool by the manufacture to purchase the car in the first place.

Too heavy, too ugly, to complicated, blah, blah, blah. Mercedes sold a gazzillon retractable hard top SL's and I have never heard any internet hyerbole about it failing. Porsche will sell a ton of these also, just not to the 1% that read the 993 Rennlist board everyday.

I love it and hope to be able to have one someday.
