I'm in the market for a set of tires for the car 225/40 fronts and 285/30 rears. I'm replacing Pilot Sports and was considering either Bridgestone SO-2 or SO-4s? OR should I stick with the Pilot Sports. I do drive in the rain when it does here. Anyone here want to "chime in" with your recent experience with the Bridgestones?

Pilot Sports have a deserved reputation but are expensive for the marginal benefit they offer over other, good tires.

I loved the S-02s I had on my MZ3 but they are old technology now and I wouldn't bother. No experience with S-04s.

I ended up putting RE-11s on my 993 and after a couple of AutoXs and ~1000 street miles I am quite happy with my purchase.

I would get Super Sports. I'm am not a Bridgestone fan.

+++ Super Sports are the best tires I've had as well. I will get them for my 991 when the OEM Pirellis wear out.

Last time I checked the Michelin Super Sport didnt come in 285/30 for wide bodies.

S-04 here - came with the car and I just replaced the front S-03 to S-04 a few months ago.
Very happy with wet performance in 50 degree weather.
Good in dry cold 28 degree weather (obviously with more careful driving) esp once tires warm up a bit.

I was considering Michelin, but they don't make them in 285/30 except for Super Cup.

I would go with the Michelins. I have so4 on my car right now and they are decent tires for the money. The car seems to be not as stable in high speed turns IMHO. I have a Z with pilots and it drives much better.

I have another set with pilots and when I switched out the wheel set, the car drove much like my Z.

Again for the price not bad tires. I have tried Kumho on my car. I didn't like them and ended up giving them to a friend.

I'm not impressed with SO2s either, have them currently on my BBS wheels.

I'd stick with the Michelins or give the Sumis a try if you want to save some $. I'm actually gonna put on a set (Sumis) on my wheels in the Spring.

If you can get the PSS Michelins in a +10, ie 235 front 295 rear, I found that size perfect on my 993 C2S for 4 or 5 sets of PS2 before I sold the car.

I love the S04s on my 17" Cup IIs for where I live (AZ). A terrific tire for a daily driver on dry pavement. I have very limited wet driving experience with them or need for that matter, however.

Are you doing a lot of track work? For daily driving and wet the Super Sports are GREAT!

BUT

me and a few friends (993, cayman & boxster) are all seeing that after a few hard days at the track the SS compound starts collecting marbles\clag.. you can see the compound on the tires holding the rubber and reduces grip\hopping from the front tires (mainly on long, high load corners). I think the single compound of the PS2 is more suited for track work.

Has anyone else seen the Super Sports having issues at the track?
