In my search for my first 993 one thing
that I noticed I liked was the aluminum
gauges that come with an aluminum
package. Can you do that aftermarket?
I mean the aluminum dials themselves not
the outside rims.
it really looks cool and I would like to not
have to worry about not getting it in my
future car.

Yes, there are several aftermarket kits. Some better than others. Once the search is enabled it should be easy to find out more.

Here is a pic of my cabrio dash. These are the factory aluminum gauges which I purchased on ebay. You can find them used or use aftermarket tuners like TechArt who have good quality inserts. This is important as if you go with non factory el cheepo faces you may have night gauge visibility problems.

If you are not in a hurry, OEMs come up on eBay or LA Dismantlers from time to time. The exchange for black ones in a 6spd/non onboard computer is very easy except for the tight clearance of the tach from the steering hub. Still it a lot easier than actually changing the decals. I had no problem selling my black ones for $325. Probably could get more if sold separately but why bother? the transaction will net you a $1000 OEM option for around $200.

96P my mom was just here, she told me that they
are getting everything there(home depot etc) in Sachse.
I moved there in 72 and it was a sleepy little cow town.
Now I live in a sleepy little military town in the desert
70 miles from the nearest city , i like little towns.

How would these do in a cabriolet in the sun? Are they tough to see (will I go blind looking at them?)

Regarding the aluminum gauges:
1. My dealer Gave them to me as a gift (lucky me) after I purchased my third Porsche from the dealership.
2. I did install them myself. A pretty easy install after I removed the steering wheel for access to the tach. The steering wheel removal is easy also, but do not have the key in the ignition while the air bag is off (important), or you will need the dealer to "reset" the air bag warning light.
3. The gauges are eay to see in the sunlight (mine is a cab too), however, the turn signal lights are hard to see against the aluminum during daylight.
