I just talked with Earl at Becker North America (parts dept). He said they have placed an order for the Monza and recommended I check back in a few weeks as they should be in shortly. He also said that there is a problem with them --> the AM reception will not work

Just an FYI.

Guys, don't give up so easily There should be many places in Europe which will happily export the units to you. Generally speaking, Germany is cheaper for consumer goods than the UK but less likely to take credit cards.

EDIT:
I just beat Gwan's price by 90 euros, sorry Gwan! They sell for 389 euros here: http://www.electronica24.de/app/cata...roductID=10531

Anyone consodering the Becker Online Pro 7800 if it is released here in the US? AM/FM/2-RDS/CD Player/CD Changer Control/MP3 player/tri-band GSM/Nav (a la the Traffic Pro)? Oh, and it also has an SD/MMC slot for playing your MP3's off of an SD card. Be aware that this unit employs the MOST bus (Media Oriented Systems Transport - a fiber-based ring topology) that you are now finding in current 996/986/955 models. That will preclude connections to existing changers that do not connect via MOST. That said, the feature combination you find in this 1 DIN unit *is* pretty impressive.

I'm trying to get info on this unit's availability here in the US. It's supposed to be the stock radio in the Carrera GT. Becker USA has someone in Europe this week training on this unit. He's supposed to be back at the end of this week, so perhaps more detailed info is forthcoming.

MikeInfo, they are actually asking more than the shop price I linked to above!

Jeff, you are so right. Nothing but a rotary volume **** will do

Swiftii - that is odd that they would sell new radios that do not work on the AM band - do you have any more details on that?

I emailed Gert yesterday, he said he would see what he could do and get back to me today.

And Graham, I went to that link you posted, the site is all in German. Did you email them in english?

I also searched the archives here, and then did a google search on every tuner mentioned in every thread I could find. In my opinion, the only tuner that looks classy and semi-factory is this Becker Monza. The Pioneer DEH-P77MP is a distant second, but might do I can't get a Monza. Every single other one had way too many lights, buttons, colors, and other "Fast and Furious" type designs. No offence to anyone who put them in their cars.

Oops! I asked the lady the wrong question. I asked her whether they ship to other countries, which they do. But when I told her what this was all about she said Europe only. Sorry, guys

All is not lost, however. You could just get someone you trust in Europe to take delivery and re-ship to the States (I wouldn't mind helping if I can). It might still be a lot cheaper than the extraordinary ~$600 being asked by one US importer!

Yeah Graham, I just heard back from Anita, they dont ship to USA.

Dang, the H/K Traffic Pro looks good, but alas, no MP3, which is my #1 priority.

The quest continues.....

Any explanation as to why the AM won't work in the US? I'm in Europe enought that I'm interested in buying one but think that giving up AM is an issue (there aren't many ball games on FM!).

Rick,

I can't even speculate and didn't ask as I don't ever use AM. You can give Becker NA a call: (201) 327-3434 then option 4 gives you the parts dept where you could buy parts or aftermarket components.

Let me know if you find out...

For any who might still be following this thread and considering the Monza - I got the following info from Becker direction...

FM works fine. Because european FM tuning as done by 100kHz vs U.S. tuning by 200kHz, the Monza just steps twice for every one step on the U.S. dial. AM, however, will not work unless the station you want to listen to is a multiple of the U.S. tuning interval (10kHz) and the european interval (9kHz).
Has anyone purchased the unit yet? I'm giving it from serious thought if I can find a reasonable way to purchase it.

Three years later.... what's the collective wisdom of the Becker monza as an upgrade to the cd210 Is it far superior to the 220 upgrade route? Still hard to get in the states?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

No time to do research now but I remember looking at high end head units some time ago (like Nak, old Denon, etc) and there was something with Europe using a different freq range or breakdown for AM tuning. Will look around online some time and see....
