Default Why is my car making a popping sound?

I have a 97 carrera S. For some reason, if i'm making a right turn I will hear a popping sound. It sounds like its coming from the back but maybe the front. I don't think it happens at high speeds but I dont have the opportunity to hear it because of road noise.

Situation 1: I will be turning right at 5-10mph, hear a pop, and some times during that turn when i turn the wheel back to normal(not going right any more) i'll hear another pop when I straighten out the wheel. So two pops.

Situation 2: Also if i'm parked, then back out of a spot, turing the wheel to the right while going in reverse I will hear a pop.

The pop is not that loud, some times it's louder and sometimes it's soft. Overall if the radio is on, you probably wouldn't hear it.

I tried these situations going left and there isn't any sound.

Any ideas? Thanks

Does this happen when the car is stationary?

Is the boot on the rack loose and popping over something when extended to right turns? Should be the drivers side boot if this is the case.

I have never looked at cv joints before, but i did just familiar myself with pictures of good and bad ones online. Is there cv joints on both axis or just the rear. I looked at the two rears and it doesn't seem like anything is wrong.

On the back, there is 4 boots, 2 on each wheel. Is that the same for the front axis too?

I feel like the noise is coming from the back, but who knows it's hard to tell.

I did have the car replaced with konis fsd, but i think it was making the noise before. I'm not 100 percent on that though.

D- Your car is a 2S not 4S. You only have drive axles on the rear, so no CVs on the front. You are correct that you have 4 CVs on the rear. If you don't see any evidence of torn boot i.e. wet boots or grease slings to the undercarriage near the area, chances are boots are fine.

What lowering springs are you using with the FSDs? On my last 993, it was lowered with HDs and M030. Those springs are much shorter than stock. Each time I jack up the car, the springs would come off the spring seats top/bottom. When lowering the car back down, I had to make sure the springs are seated on their perches or you may get some noise when turning the wheels. Come to think of it, anyone thinks bad strut mounts?

Ok ya just wanted to make sure, I have a lot to learn.

And i'm still using the stock springs with them. I didn't see any advantage other then getting the car even lower, which I don't really care for.

I'm sorry to be blunt, but if you can't determine whether it is front or rear, and you are driving the car, how can anyone online provide an effective diagnosis?

If it is repeatable in reverse, then have someone stand next to your car while backing up, and try to at least determine where it comes from.
