Default Sandblasted Windshield - What to Do?

My original windshield is a bit sandblasted. Not chipped. It led a life on the east coast before it moved to Los Angeles. I'd rather not replace it if its not cracked, and otherwise in good shape, but in direct sunlight it the visual distortion can be a bit distracting. What can I do? Can it be polished to minimize the sandblasting?

In one word, Yes.
However satisfaction depends on the person on the polisher and the amount of polishing necessary. I had mine done a year or so ago on a few scratches--results were very satisfactory

Had a deep arching scratch from end of a wiper blade.
One of those windshield chip repair shops did a great job polishing it out, not a trace.
Bet they could get most of your sand pitting out too.....suggest you get a price and give polishing a try if cost is reasonable.

Mine was the same-to me, it was a safety issue, and a chance to see if I had any corrosion in the corners.

Never knew you could do this. Mine is a bit pitted, but otherwise in excellent condish. I guess you learn something new every day.

Yo, same issue here. I was wondering the same (buffing it out), and who might do that and what it might cost. Group buy for a windshield buff? OK, I'll join.

The windshield chip repair repair is a totally different type of process, nothing to do with buffing out sand pits. They drill a hole and inject epoxy to fix chips. Do most of those guys do glass buffing too?

Count me in too - Los Angeles here! Happy to travel an hour or so in any direction to make this happen.

Novus buffed mine, took the wiper scratch out.
Told me there might be a little distortion, but I can't see it.
Removed 50% or more of the pitting over the entire windshield, think it was under $100 several years ago.

I've repaired several chips using $15 kits, looks as good and is as durable as the pro shops.

Smile For the future

Once you buff these windscreen out, or replace therm, have them covered in tint plastic sheeting. Here is one source for for the windscreen covering: http://www.eco-tint.com/automotive/e...ld-protection/

I have not used Eco_tint yet. My local window tint guy, applies the interior tint, the lightest shading he can provide: Been doing this for years. It works great: But it too will eventually get pitted, but replacing the covering is a lot cheaper than a windscreen....mine is primarily a track car and sees very limited street use, especially in the rain. I know the car won't melt...but track tires and rain are not a good combination.

BTW, Eco-Tint is out of Las Vegas. Their Dealer Contact link would not work for me...maybe we should have a window tint party? Eco-Tint comes over from Vegas and does everyone's that is interested cars? Better yet, there is a local SoCal dealer. I will post up when they get back to me.

Ben,

I sent you a PM about an installer in the area. Does great work and very competitive pricing. Give him a call.
