hi Gillesdevaillos,

the Focals you installed in your '95 cab?...have a question re the '98 C2s...I also have hi-fi and read that the middle speaker on the front doors is actually a full range speaker but the 4.125" size is impossible to find in aftermarket brands...I accidentally damaged this speaker while exploring my door panel...so would you need to just buy this piece OEM from Porsche?

thank you

The plastic is ok, it's the *****. The two main/blue ones r big and bright, and also very sensitve when turned, so I've been using the remote. The other ***** are also bright, so when they all come together, it stands out. I think theres's a way to dimm them though. Other...then there's an annoying beep when changing sources - have to see if that can be disabled. And the built in mike, well it's not the greatest, on the phone the other party hears a lot of background noise. Most of all, this radio gets really HOT when playing CDs in record time. And from time to time I'll get a USB error when connecting either to the front or rear ports - it get's a little cofused.

I was thinking about installing a second one in the 993, but after looking at the CDR 220 that's there now, I won't.

J,

If you are replacing,I would go with a two way setup and forget about the 4.125 speaker. A tweeter and mid, is more than sufficient.

These are the speakers I intend to install and also the head unit I had previously installed.

Unfortunately the replacement rear speaker grills are no longer available. I'm just going to have to be careful when manipulating and modifying the ones in the car now.

LuckyJ -

Is this a typo? 4.125" Should be 5.125",,, ya? .... You're referring to the 5.125" woofer in the HiFi speaker options door enclosure? Is the 4.125" sized speaker a rear/side speaker to the cabriolet?

The specialty speaker firm http://www.microprecision.de makes a suitable replacement speaker with their Series 5, model 5.8. This wide band speaker works very well in the HiFi enclosures central position, although an ever-so-slight modification of the enclosure's cavity is required. The OEM amplifier is weak in this combo unfortunately as the very highest volume will suffer. All in all the 5.8 is a high performance speaker. PM me if you would like to try the set of 5.8s I have.... you will need a flexible crossover and suitable amplification. - its a must.

ok, think I'm gonna have to do exactly that....if I use that subwoofer line for the mid...do I just tape up the middle (full-range) speaker lines?...I have no clue with wiring....thanks

Utilizing the 993s HiFi speaker option's wiring to the doors to re-make the speaker system into an elegant 2 way speaker arrangement,,, is a beautifully elegant solution to a 993 stereo system enhancement; mid/woofer and tweeter will the speakers in total.

The passenger seat located amplifier's replacement should not be over looked. There's a variety of audio amplifier's suitable for this limited space location.

You will need a two way crossover. With regards to the OEM three way wiring, Just do not connect the middle speakers, hi frequencies go to the tweeters and low to the mid-bass., yes, cover up any exposed copper wiring.

I prefer to put heat shrink over the tips and insulate them, not a fan of electrical tape.

^ A nice clean coaxial arrangement plus the actual speaker units look robust! Gotta sound great as well.
