My suggestion:

Create one universal design with a basic framework where the top can be fixed or hinged. That's the "Ikea Package". Then each buyer can do the following on their own:

No Doors / Fixed Top.
No Doors / Hinged Top (1 piece).
No Doors / Hinged Top (2 piece - split in the middle).
Self-cut Front Doors / Fixed Top.
Self-cut Front Doors / Hinged Top (2 variants).

Here are some examples I found...

There's no way we can ask a designer / fabricator to come up with all of these variants on their own and then try to track who gets what. But if 10 or 20 of us ordered "The Kit" and then can modify / assemble as we want, then everyone wins.

This is a great community effort. I love it! We hit critical mass with the CAD drawing from Vince (vincer77). If Mike (96PCarrera993mg) is successful with the test construction/fit, that is huge progress. Thanks, guys. If Vince and Mike set up a Paypal link, I would be happy to donate some money towards the cause for your time/efforts, as I suspect others would as well. It might not be much but it would be nice gesture for everything you are doing. Just post the links in this thread.

Agreed! It would be nice to "minimize" the thickness of the material to keep weight in check. In looking at the photos of the examples, that's some pretty thick plywood on the cover considering how small the openings are. Overbuilt in my humble opinion, but some simple adjustments to the thickness (ie: 1/2" frame and 3/8" cover piece if stable enough, especially if split into 2 pieces - left and right to cover the 2 top openings) might be perfect. Those that don't want opening versions simply don't have to add the hinged top. Those that want a split top can simply cut it in half.

The profile of the top panel shown in the pictures posted by RonCT seem to be quite a bit different than the one from E3Photo. I will need to look this over again. Are the interiors of widebodies and narrow bodies the same?

As far as weight, there is supposedly lightweight plywood, and also some polyurethane foam panels that could be used.

Vince - those photos are of early 911s, not 993. Was showing them just to get an idea of how we could start with a fixed "L" shaped RSD and then each could make the holes, add the lid if they want.

I picked up a 964 rear seat delete and want to fit it to my 993tt. However, most of the interior of my car is out for re-upholstery. I would want to reupholster the rear seat delete as well. Does anyone want to take point on fitting this 964 RSD to a 993 and making a template? If not, I can make a simple template once I am able to fit it to the car.

When I redid mine I made a top shelf template. AOW162435 (Andreas) now has this piece at his house. I simply cut the new piece, laid the old one on top and drilled through all the holes and everything lined up perfectly.

To resurrect an older thread, someone might want to buy these RSD door components on flea-bay to use at least for measurements/design of an aftermarket RSD option. The auction is ending soon (in a couple hours) and the current price is ~$20.

I saw this a few days ago, but after careful inspection can't make any sense of the bits.

It looks like most of the door pieces are there. Inside and outside panels, hinges, hardware and one strap. There are also the luggage tie-down loops for a coupe RSD included. Beyond that it looks like a project. One significant missing piece is the bat-wing panel (term borrowed from a 986 part that has a similar shape) that fits between the two doors, along with the brackets that support that piece.

Why someone put speaker holes in the doors and not into the wooden top panels I don't know.

Somebody got the pile of big holes for $51.00 -- good luck to them.

Yeah really. They have their work cut out for them. Although if they start producing parts in the 3D printer we might get somewhere.

I made my own rear seat delete . It is not a big job to build the thing , the hard part is carpeting the back area and covering the components . Here is a couple picture . The second picture is with a 996 rear deck mat on top that I had custom fit
