HID Headlight up grade
I up graded to HIDs about 5 months ago. It appears that one has already burnt out after about 6 hours use. What are some of your HID experiences? Do I need to stock up on replacements?

I have had mine for almost 7 years, with no problems.
Did you install them yourself? You need to be careful not to touch the bulbs, they get very hot, and a little bit of oil from your fingers can cause problems.

Where did you get them from? Lots of folks here use DDMTuning hids. I got 2 years out of the last set. Many Listers have had no issues. I hear the T-lights are very reliable hid conversion kits.

Go with the T lights, flawless since I installed them. Nothing but problems with the DDM version I tried first. Cheaper yes but much cheaper build quality vs the T lights. Just my 2 cents

I've been looking at www.theretrofitsource.com for HIDs. It's a very informative site and seems to offer much better HIDs than the oft-mentioned DDMs

Typically, HID bulbs have a very long lifespan of around 2500+ hours, compared that to a standard halogen bulb, which generally only lasts around 300 hours

Are you sure it's a bulb? I would swap bulbs and/or ballasts to check which problem it is first. I'm running DDM's... for only 7 months or so though. Had a ballast go bad the first week... replacement is going strong but theyre infants compared to most peoples setups.

I tried HIDs a few years back. The lights were great, that is, when they worked. After having the ballasts go bad several times, I switched back to the old fashioned OEM lights. The lighting is not as good but it's sure nice to always have 2 working and have easy access to a spare if needed.

The lighting is SO much better with HID's, I don't mind paying $23 whenever there might be a problem (DDM $46 for a kit = $23 a side, including bulbs AND ballasts), so I will always have a stockpile of spare parts in case. So far, I have just had one ballast go bad so with my $46 replacement kit (I didnt even bother warrantying the original ballast), I still have 1 more replacement ballast and 2 4500k bulbs left
