Default Varioram?

I know from reading this board that the varioram was put in place in 1996.

Does all MY 1996 cars have varioram? And will the word Varioram always be on the engine bay (silver colored thingamaggiey...)

I believe all 96 cars were varioram, although they don't all have the script on the intake (mine included). But, the big silver intake is the varioram giveaway.

Hi Keith:

All 96-98 993's have Varioram.

The 97-98 ones have those letters cast into the top part of the intake manifold. 96's are not labeled as such and thats how you tell those apart.

I asked this same question last year. Some varioram cars do not have the varioram script. I searched for the thread but it did not appear in the results. As I recall, we were discussing the appearance of the "varioram" script on the intake manifold. We seemed to have it narrowed down pretty well by build date though I don't remember when we concluded that the script began to appear.

When the search function is working search on the word varioram and my screen name.

I remember that thread, but also don't remember when we narrowed down the build date. I know it's after 4/96, though, because that's when my car was built.

With not many responses, it seemed the transition build date was late '96, but there were reported inconsistencies.

Here's the thread: VarioRAM Logo on '96 manifold & Build Date
