Today I finally got the motor back into place and was met with a nugget of disappointment. Single click and motor doesn't turn over. Its got me quite confused. I've reconnected all relays, wires, switches vacuum lines or so I believe - difficult to feel absolute about that given this result but I do believe I got everything.

While doing the work today, I did an oil change and have a fresh 10q's in it now(with my two standby's once I let it run a bit). I also put a new battery in it but have replaced no other engine or electrical components(apart from one SAI valve-which shouldn't be affecting this problem). Worth noting that I have yet to hook up the suspension components, mufflers and bumper...I would've thought the thing should at least fire before I finalized all those components.

Anyone have thoughts on a relay or step in this process I may have missed? Not entirely sure of the significance of this, but this is a single click - not a repetitive click - and that there is fuel in the tank(though not a ton). It just sounds like there's no spark and/or something(ecu? relay?) is telling that motor to not try and turn over. I'm going to head back out to the garage and start double checking every connection.

I realize the simple answer is that I missed something and that the number of possible causes is quite large but hopefully you guys have some signature RL trick and I can hear it fire tonight.

Thanks all!

Was your battery on a charger? Ground strap secured to the lower starter bolt?

Battery actually went flat completely and was swapped out for a new one under warranty down at o'reilly's. \
Starter should be grounded...I can hear the starter engaging(at least making a clicking sound at the rear) just isn't turning....

Yeah, ground strap. Or otherwise failure to hook up starter correctly.

I had exact same problem, found I'd missed a wire. Double check the wires to the starter, are you SURE you got them all?

There's one that likes to hide higher up above the tranny, which attaches to the stud (inset hex head). If memory serves it was white or yellowish, making 2 fat and 1 skinny wires at that connection point.

Mine had the small yellow wire going from the engine to the small terminal on the starter. Then, there is one large Red wire in the same bundle, that I believe (!!-how I did mine) goes to the large terminal, along with the large wire on the RH side of the body from the battery. Am I wrong?

Also, check the battery connections, and the ground from the battery to the body.

Son of a gun - that's a bit embarrassing but doesn't look like I'm the first to miss it.

Nice work and thanks guys!

Uh, no. And a lot less transparent than on the torsion bar cars where it's down by the transaxle mount, and you're otherwise hooking up the speedo sender and reverse light switch.

Guys - what I actually missed was the positive battery hookup from the front of the car to the long post with the red wires. That's now corrected.

Cars fires right up but stalls...that's my next curiosity to explore

Ha! I KNEW I'd hit it, either the ground or the power line, as I just hooked all this stuff up this morning.

Funny, when I was looking around the bay yesterday looking for stuff that needed attention/hook-up, I didn't see it. Saw the + cable this morning while laying under the car with the engine in place.

Glad this was it!

Now, to the stall.......how many times did it stall? Maybe the fuel lines/filter filling up?

I cranked on it maybe 4 times - everything sounds fine its just stalling. Is protocol to just crank on it until it stays running?

Would make sense that the fuel lines/filters and the like would need to purge some air.

Hopefully have it on the road for the first time this week!
