Default Gold or Anthracite Wheels on a Dark Green 993 NB....?

I've been considering fitting some different wheels on my Aventurine NB 993 and it has occurred to me that for some reason or another, the eye sees a dark green 993 paired with big silver wheels as discordant ----- somehow what looks right on a Silver, Guard's Red, or lighter Blue 993 doesn't look right at all on a dark green 993. Big silver wheels have too much visual mass, too much visual presence on a dark green 993 and somehow overpower the lines of a 993.

Among the only silver wheels that work well on a dark green 993 are MY02s, and the reason I think why is because there is so much visual lightness with a MY02 meaning the spokes are so slim.

However I was hoping for some wheels with a lip, and MY02 wheels unfortunately as nice as they are, do not have a lip.

Then for some reason I realized that the gold/green or anthracite/green pairing works really well on a dark green 993. Something about the combination of polished wheel lips and de-emphasized wheel centers on a dark green car works. Does anyone have pictures of a dark green or even just dark 993 with gold wheels or anthracite wheels and a nice lip? I have only been able to find 964 pictures, but I'll start below. The car below looks shatteringly nice.

I'm not really sure why, though, the BBS wheels are always shown without center caps. It looks a bit unfinished to me.

I rather like it, but it also feels like a Lotus tribute car which for a Porsche is just a bit...thematically odd. But not in an unpleasant way.

gold e88s always work on a 964 - classic look. i think the gold would look good and stand out against the sea of silver rims out there. to me, your other option would be black/anthracite inserts and polished lips. the black would be a nice contrast to the green and the polished lips add the necessary 'pop'.

mondogarage - you are right. I didn't even realize that I had spent loads of time looking at color combinations only to stumble upon the classic lotus green/gold combination! Doh!

rsabeebe - you are also right! Something about de-emphasized wheel centers in anthracite w/ polished lips on a dark green car will also look right. I have modified the original post to ask for photographs in this combination. I struggle though with body color wheel centers. Is it perhaps a bit too much 1989 Pontiac Bonneville SSE looking?

I think, for example, the 964 below looks really nice, but the 996 below doesn't look right. I'm not sure I can put my finger on why the 996 doesn't look right.

ride height and wheel design, imo, miss the mark on the 996. the ride height and tighter mesh of the wheel design work better on the 964. still, i've never been a fan of the whole 'body colored wheel' thing. the only exception might be a white SC/Carrera with white Fuchs.

Yep, something odd about a turbo 996 sitting at that height...

But back to the original question...

I think it depends on how much bling you're looking for. The gold wheels are a lotta bling...too much for my tastes. I think the anthracite wheels and a nice lip would look nice, sans the rice

Gold wheels have a history with Porsche. The hard top on the 964 is very cool.

Likely because, at least for that wheel style, they are originally ordered as race wheels and therefore centercaps aren't desired. They fly off.

Pretty sure it has a sunroof too. Factory hardtops are super duper uber rare.

That car as pictured is all factory. Big thread about it over on the 964 board.

I might be wrong, but I always assumed Porsche stared the body color wheel fashion. Or maybe it was just an '80's thing. The RS cars had wheels coordinated to the stripe, but not body color.

Jlaa - I agree to pull off either color you need a contrasting rim (i.e. polished) to set off either color.

I think someone here has similar wheels on their silver 993.

Maybe this helps? I can Photoshop the BBS's your originally posted onto a photo of your car also.

Take care,

way too classic a look, just don't forget the polished lips. A stepped deep dish wheel would be the bomb also.

Good Luck
