Jack pads...are these too small?

Jack pads...are these too small?
Tired of fumbling around under a car lowered to about RS spec, I decided to get some of the cool little locking jack pads. However, are these too small? Seems part of the point would be to spread out the load as well as a standard jack does, not concentrate it? Or am I missing the point.

I've got a set oft hem and have been happy.
A lot of the value is not so much in spreading the load around a lot as not having jack/lift "pads" gouging your paintwork underneath.

The ones I have of similar design are 2.5" in diameter by 1" thick. Small, bigger, no big deal.
If you are going to leave the car on them for a long while, place a layer of 6 mil plastic sheet (vapor barrier) between the car and them so that the undercoating does not stick to the pads.

Funny, I just today shaved 2 hockey pucks I had laying around for the same reason. I use 2 Hessco jacks for the rear which line up nicely as is. I'll use these for the front regular v-shaped jack stands for stability & no under plastic contact. I'll post pics if anyone is interested. Cheapest mod I've ever done.

for my use I've been toying around with making these fit. Available at every BMW on the planet

they should fit with a little work I think. I happen to have some laying around from my other car. I snap them in and out for use on the lift so the lift pad doesn't grab the bodywork.

When i received mine, i thought there had been a mistake. They are ridiculously small in diameter, the load bearing surface is <1 square inch. I might put them under a model car but not my 993!

Post size 1.1/4 x 15/16" x 1/2" [the size of the jack point hole on the 993].
Subtract the 1 1/4" x 15/16" jack point hole area from the OD area minus the pin area of the toy and you have the load bearing surface of the toy............................pretty damn small!

Hockey pucks ... 
I like the cushioning, and they grip well. Perhaps not as positive as a lock as the ones with the tabs, but I usually need a puck on many of the 993 that come in - for the left front mount which is often bent or has a failed weld. When that happens, the metal pucks are useless.

The fact that the base is much larger does not change anything. In fact, it might not fit into the smaller saddle of some jacks.
