Fact is the RS pulley is simpler then the duel design, it's far easier to replace the belt, and you never have to worry about the pulley bearing failing shredding both belts.

So tired of the naysayers saying you car will not charge with it, or leave you stranded. Not sure about how others drive but I don't spend 2+ hours at a time idling. Porsche made the part for a production car. If it was unsafe chances are they would not have used it. I daily drove my 993 for 5 years (in BAD traffic) with the RS pulley, never had any battery, alt or cooling problems.
This.

(disclaimer: i dont have an RS pulley, yet...)

Thx for all the input! After doing some research on modifying to the single belt, the biggest common contradiction was that the alternator spins at a slower RPM, leading to a weaker charging of the battery. As someone mentioned, the biggest notice would be at idle, thus the recommendation to increase idle RPMs to 1,100. Although I like the simplicity of it all, I do enjoy my stereo, A/C, lights, etc... Makes sense for the RS model but not for me, a non-tracker.

[QUOTE=BobbyT;10817868]Correct belts are: (inner-cooling fan) Porsche 999 192 338 50, (outer-alternator) Porsche 999 192 343 50, (AC) Porsche 999 192 363 50.QUOTE]

BobbyT... Going back to my original question, catalog calls for inner belt to be either a 9.5x760 (993 192 343 50 for model M64.60) or 9.5x776 (993 192 338 50); outer belts has three sizes. Any idea why the different sizes?

Hi Sagres74,

I should have said these part numbers are the correct belts for my 95 C2. Belts sizes for the various engine types are shown on the parts diagrams at the link below, select your model/year, and drill down to main group 1, sub group 05, illustration 105-00:

It does come up quite a bit. Every few months someone post about shredding a belt. Then there are the post about the socket for the ALT shaft, or a thread about stripping the ALT shaft. It has been a problem for some.

With the RS pulley you DON'T need to touch the ALT shaft to change a belt, you just need a allen wrench.

I know you have your opinions on things, and usually I agree with you. But unless you have done this on your car you will not see the upside. For me it was a WIN/WIN solution. One less part to replace/buy and some added performance to boot.

I have also had the RS single pully system for about 5 years and have never had an issue with my electrical or AC... Several mechanics have told me there is no reson not to go to the single pully system since its so simple and less chnace for belt/pully issues down the road..

If I was to make the decision to go the single belt (plus A/C) what pulley would I use? I don't recall ever seeing a DIY thread for this conversion. Awhile back I did see a Rennlister that had it professionally done by Clewett Engineering but I can't find that tread ether.
Thanks.
Bill

The single belt is the RS setup, part 993106005180.

You basically take out the fan, replace the original bearing with the RS hub and then bolt your fan pulley to that, which thereby drives the fan and the alt at the same speed, whereas they used to spin at different speeds.

There are a few other RS mods that work in conjunction with the RS pulley mod. Reduce the electrical draw to match the alternator output. Remove the air conditioning, remove the radio and comfort control unit. Dump the alarm, door locking and immobilizer. Delete the heater blower and power windows.
