for all those touting range rover as having gotten much better, I call bull****. They are still notoriously unreliable. 2013 JD Power dependability...uses data from 2010 cars for 3 years...dead last.

2012 dependability...sample size too small
2011, almost dead last

We supply all of the LR dealerships in Canada and based on the horror stories i have heard first hand from the service managers never would I consider an RR out of warranty.

On my third BMW X5. Current one is a 35d and it is the best. Average 24.5 mpg over the last 12,000 miles. The torque of the diesel is amazing and the engine sound is not intrusive to my ears at all. Indeed, I find the extra sound of the diesel reassuring in a funny way.
Only downside is filling it up. Diesel is more messy, but at least where I am the stations have throw away plastic gloves which makes it not a big deal. I figure I'm saving $600 to $700 in fuel costs per annum compared to my old gas X5 (which was the six).

Having owned a couple new Jeep GC's over the years, I'd never buy another. Ever. Great looking SUV though.
Range Rovers are great looking too, but reliability out of warranty is abysmal.
I can highly recommend both the Toyota Landcruiser and Highlander. Both are super reliable and very inexpensive to maintain.

Congrats on the move Arrwin! I would say it depends how big of a car you want right now.
For CPO 2-row SUVs I like the 2012+ ML or Jeep Grand Cherokee. As far as 3-row SUVs go, I recently bought a Ford Explorer Sport - interior is a couple of notches down from German offerings but I was pretty impressed with how it drives. Don't know how well it will hold over time. You can get one new with extended warranty for the price of ML CPO.
Good luck with your search.

I had a 2008 RR and a 2010 RR Sport. Loved them when they worked, but they had to be in the shop min of every three months. The adaptive driving program simply did not work and needed to be reset after a few months of the RR learning driving patterns. YMMV
