Great story.

$1,500 for a complete 912? Holy Smokes.

Beautiful cars, both of them.

Love the color of the 912 and if I may ask, how much did you sell it for? Ballpark-ish. I'm curious what that type of car commands in today's market.

Very nice. My first Porsche was similarly a 1968 912, but it had a 2.2 911 motor in it (and some rust and bondo). Still miss that car. The 993 is a Cadillac in comparison.

Our 68 912 caught fire in 97, insurance gave us $7500 for it then.

Looking back, I wish we had the space to buy it back, restore it and keep it. Simply no room at our current house.

I am guessing a well done restored car goes for a lot more these days.

I sold mine at a price that allowed me to get into my 993...sorry to be cryptic about that.

912's vary widely in price depending upon a lot of factors, though. Here's an example of a decent 912 similar in condition to the one I sold:

Prices are rising on 912's, too. In the one year I owned mine, I could see a big difference in the enthusiasm of offers to buy it. Seemed like the average purchase offer went up a couple grand each month. Two years ago, people paid them no mind, but now they're fully onboard and riding the long-hood valuation upswing. I'm sure I could've gotten a couple grand more out of the car if I sold it now as compared to a three months ago. Two reasons I didn't keep it, 1) I couldn't afford a 911 without selling the 912 first, and 2) I only had room in my garage for ONE Porsche. The 993 is just more "me".

Thank you Mr. W. that answer my question. Happy to see you as part of the 993 club.
